That darn Zane. I just wanted to go for a walk. He aske if we could go hunting and I said sure and grabbed the rifle. So we're having a nice walk and checking out some deer spots and he says, "Dad! Squirrel!" I handed him the rifle and he missed. Mr. Squirrel hung around for me to find another shell and knee down so Zane could use my shoulder like a rest. Crack! Got him! needed a follow up shot and he was done. Pretty good anatomy lesson for Zane, Drew, and Drew's buddy while we cleaned him up. Big male and lots of giggling about that!

Chimney cap & Paint
Good morning, we have primer on ceiling & walls, first coat of Swiss Coffee satin on a few walls, and most of the ceiling done. Fireplace is ready for stonework on Oct 6…Neighbors cut down trees to build another garage. Dock is in and the beach is narrow! Going to BC, have a good day!

OK. Here is the Tree Rat report. 2 fer 2! First rat with the little 17 Mach2 was a 83 yard head shot. The second was 42 yard neck shot. Both were free-hand.Even got to try out the new rangefinder. Have to ask Mick to see pictures or the internet police will ban me!

There should be some interest in the 1873 Springfield Trapdoor 45/70s and 1873 Winchester .44/40 rifles that Gayland has(if I remember right) with the new deer rifle regulations for Southern Michigan. The 45/70 case length is 2.1". Could be trimmed to 1.8" to be legal.

Kick wan't too bad. Really fun to shoot. Maybe Bob will let Dan shoot it one-handed from a horse like The Duke in True Grit! I'm in no hurry to get anything since these rifles we call muzzleloaders are so good. A friend's daughter killed a nice buck with a .357 H&R at 50 yards. They complained that it ran 50 yards and didn't leave a blood trail. Duh!

Zane caught a TD pass today. Really neat. He was wide open. About the first time he's got it thrown too him since he's playing with kids Drew's age. Felt like the ball was in the air forever but he hauled it in and crossed the goal line.

Pics from salmon fishing on the Pere Marquette. We stayed at Barothy in Wallhalla. Right of Wallhalla Rd., about 2 miles from deer camp. Hooked two but couldn't land them. Very slow going. The fish aren't in there quite yet in any numbers.

House trim and 3rd floor dormers are being scraped, power washed & painted. Tom has planted a pretty flower garden out front. Gayland asked for lots of color and he got it. Too bad he can't enjoy this beautiful yard, but he is comfortable and well-cared for at Caretel.

Had a good time at the Michigan Sportsman salmon tournament In Muskegon today. Mark and I collected enough salmon eggs to fish the rivers for the rest of the fall. The food was great. Didn't know you could make so many different foods out of venison. Also had deep fried salmon, walleye and grilled corn on the cob. Bringing home 40+ pounds of King, Koho and Stealhead salmon fillets didn'thurt either!

New hickory cabinets
Cabinets were delivered this afternoon, pix of old and new. Young guys RAN with them on dollies from the road to the garage. Carpenter can cut down our bookcase and make it fit. Yes! OK we're off to his 30th CRIM 10 Mile! Will be inspecting the crops as well! HA HA HAPPY FOR DAN!

Thanks, we got one, looked at Buick, GMC, and Chevy's and chose one with a trailer package, heated seats, and all wheel drive. Not that we needed the seats… Had almost 70,000 miles on our trade-in, lot of trips to BC and FL. Watching the Tigers 3-1 in the top of the 7th!

Got a good report on Gayland this morning. He moved to the cardiac step-down unit, room 569. Cardiac cath went well and haa 3 yrs battery life on his defibrillator. PT ordered and may be going home tomorrow! He ate bkfst and is sleeping now. We'll talk to him later. What a relief!

Search-The Flint Journal: The Shaw Reunion was held at the home of Mr & Mrs Norton Parks on July 4, 1916. The older members present were Mr & Mrs Thomas Shaw of Rankin, Mrs Maritta Parks of Mt Pleasant, Mrs Hannah Perry of Swartz Creek, and Mrs Josephine Shaw of Mundy Township. Dinner was partaken of at noon. Remember those SHAW REUNIONS at McCurdy Park in Corunna? Have a good weekend!

For the record: In 2006 we found the PARK momument at Flushing Cemetery and thought Norton Park was HCP's father, but after obtaining a copy of Norton's will, a documented source that Norton & Catherine Mandeville Park had only one son, Mortimore Norton Park of Flushing, and the Brookings Cemetery listings...it seems that Norton's older brother Alanson (Alonzo) Parke was HCP's father. We never gave up on the good doctor Josiah Alger of Rankin who raised an ORPHAN, and now we know the rest of the story! Wish we could tell Dad and U. Hank...

Exciting NEW finding tonight in search for parents of Henry Christopher...looks like Josiah Alger of Mundy Center (Rankin) was his grandfather! Found source that stated Mary Alger born 1803 married PARKS. Mary was the oldest child of Josiah Alger's 10 children. 1830 Census of Oakland Co lists Alanson (Alonzo) Parks with Josiah Alger. Another source identifies one-Parks, son-in-law of Josiah Alger in Oakland County 1825...Hope we find more!

Thanks Mick for posting the Bay City Collage. We've had some good times in BC, enjoying that big old house. It was built 1908. The ND Parks barn was built 1905, same year Frank & Gayland's dad was born in Palo Alto. Posted a few shots of flowers and those birds this morning!

Good Morning, Another trip to BC today, met with the hospice nurse, his visiting physician, and now the hospice social worker. PT will be coming in to help with range of motion exercises, he is not able to stand very well, not walking past 2 days, but he is warm & comfortable in his own home. Valentine Bear, muffins and pumpkin pie arrived, today he's expecting PASTIES! Thanks Dan & Nan!

Hope he gets better news for his shoulder than I did. I either live with it or have shoulder replacement. All tendons are gone. Nothing to reattach. The doc(s) couldn't believe I could lift or move my arm at all. Told them it was the good workouts I got this summer throwing straw up in the barn.
