Great article. Too bad we need to read the paper to find out what our family members really do for a living. Could someone find a similar one on mr and Nan. Never did know what Frank did. A lot better than working with farmers with a low beet check i bet

Thanks Mick, lots of good memories of the Nelsons. I remember when Gay brought over a TV and hooked it up in the front room. He said we needed one. Can you imagine not having TV? Have a good day!

28 here and we could get 2-4" tonight. Finally done with meat cutting and I've got my first batch of jerkey drying in the oven. Nice service for Gay today. The pastor read some really nice words from grandsons Travis and Curt. One of them said they felt better knowing that he would be at peace with Dick Parks talking his ear off to catch on lost time.

Good Morning, doubt you would want to detect around this sight, the few acres around the ranchhouse were not purchased by the State. There had been cattle dip tanks here and nobody wanted to clean up the mess. But you could hunt wild hogs... Have a good week!
- Mon Nov 28 2005 7:12AM
Darrell
You could have carved that spider up for a Thanksgiving meal! I will have to bring the metal detector down and check out the ranch house. You have permission to be there right?!!!

Good job! To get the link clickable, paste it into the URL field. Then, whatever you put in the 'Your Name' field will be clickable. I always just paste the link in 'Your Name' and 'URL' then stick my name in post. Anyone that wants to upload pictures to the site can ask Brandy for a training session. - MR

No bucks for me at Parks'Place. Jerry the next door neighbor got a nice 8-point out of my blind opening day. Better him than some yahoo on the state land. Met all the neighbors.

Good looking venison...recognize the pine tree outside, the one with the low branch...That crazy cardinal is here again this year, attacking the mirrors on the little car parked IN the garage...better go bag the mirrors.

Dan and I made it back from Up North today. We had 6-8" of snow on the ground when we left. Rain and wind long enough to get all of our stuff wet then snow. Got this one at 8:00AM yesterday down below the turn-a-round. Today was the best day for sightings. Dan saw 18 and I saw 5.

Sam made a perfect shot on a doe this morning. At 60 yards she made a lung shot. Lots of blood and pink lung crud. Unfortunately while tracking it across to the negighbors it jumped and they shot it. I should have waited a little longer brfore tracking but it was raining pretty hard. Didn't bother to say anything to them. Let them have it. Andy and I both missed a buck. Long storys. Seen 15 plus deer. Still 1 buck alive at dark!
- Tue Nov 15 2005 7:43PM
Connie
Seeing is believing! Good luck to Sam and all you hunters! I will post her picture and a couple from the Florida Trail later. Got to get the cookies baked!
- Tue Nov 15 2005 10:22AM

- Sun Nov 13 2005 2:30PM
Darrell
Watch out for those hogs! I got Sam a 20 gauge Mossbergh 500. We scoped it and she keeps about a 6 inch group at 50 yards. Good enough to tag one from the fort to the pond!
- Sat Nov 12 2005 7:34PM
Connie
Crusin' the Tamiami Trail tonight...in Venice for a tennis tournament. Walked in Myakka State Forest today, the game warden cautioned that it was the last day of bow season, gun season starts tomorrow-for wild hogs!

Woke up to 44.9 degrees, thought I was back upnorth! We are settling in after the 16 hour trip from St. Louis. Didn't stay for Jenny's lecture at the convention center next to the dome, with the Rams & New Orleans Saints game at noon, all the roads were being blocked so we couldn't get in and out...so we headed to Chattanooga...and then decided we could make it here...we did. Hope you are all doing OK.
- Tue Oct 25 2005 12:03PM
Darrell
Glad to hear you made it ok. I personaly liked looking at Betty beter! I think MR had a thing for Barney?!

- Fri Oct 21 2005 12:51PM
Connie
Took pictures at Parks' Place, big deer tracks in the lane...Forgot to take a knife with us to open the bait bags, squeezed those apples through the mesh bag, still smell like old cider! Happy hunting!
- Fri Oct 21 2005 8:43AM
Darrell
Don't let them damn turkeys eat all the deer bait!
- Wed Oct 19 2005 7:15PM
Connie
Loaded the car with shelled corn and apples, backed it up to our back deck, then a dozen turkeys showed up. Pretty good bait, wouldn't you say? Will stop at Parks' Place on the way down...beautiful evening, can't think about Wilma.
- Wed Oct 19 2005 6:12PM

That's no way to talk about your tennis opponents! Any pushing them over the fence isn't really good sportsmanhip either.
- Thu Oct 13 2005 7:53AM
Connie
Good for you Sam & Nick! Saw a weasel running on the beach, hid under our deck, then ran on...really cute! One turkey was penned in on the tennis court, his friends ran off into the orchards without him. Finally persuaded him to fly up and over the fence.
- Thu Oct 13 2005 7:02AM

Sam and Nick passed their hunter's safty test tonight. Have to go to Grand Blanc to shoot Saturday morning then they will get their permits. See some of you Saturday.

Good job, great painting weather. Took the boat for the last ride of the season, not many days here for us. How much are those pennies worth?

It was a wonderful painting party at our house. I think Nancy was trying to kill me!! Porch looks good, dining room is coming along. Even Alissa got stuck with a brush and Mick, Drew helped her cook us supper. Was excellent, team work at best. Ash is coming home this weekend and one week Kris will be home!! Hopefully it will be a quick week, more painting tonight. Gotta get the place spruced up for next July!!

Not a ton of action in Owendale either. Had a button and a doe under the stand Sat morning but that was it. Nice weather at least. Any nicer and I'll need the sunglasses and swim suit.
- Sun Oct 2 2005 6:52PM
Darrell
Lots of does and dinks but no antlers. I did have some good luck hunting with the detector! At the corner of Fletcher road, North Sharon road and Military road in Sharon, I found an 1895 indian head penny and a 1914 wheat-back penny. Not too bad for a half hour on the side of the road. Can't waite to get the locals ok to hunt the old hotel foundations.
- Sun Oct 2 2005 6:38PM

I take exception to that steers & queers thing!! Ms Kris has been offered full time employment as of October 1, YAHOO!! She was expecting her first Michigan visitor last night, Annette(Henry) was arriving in Dallas to visit Shannon whos husband is stationed there. She was pretty happy when she called. Be a good place to visit about February.
- Fri Sep 23 2005 12:26PM
MR
Texas? There's nuthin' there but steers and queers! We're putting mobile ATMs in East Lansing next week for the UM game but no plans for Texas as far as I know. They would probably melt in the heat from the sounds of it.
- Fri Sep 23 2005 8:22AM
Connie
Mick they need mobile ATMs in Texas!

I sent Ash the web page address, so look for great news live from MSU!! I can't believe she has never been a part of this family tradition!:) But, she does come by that naturally, I know she can type.
- Thu Sep 22 2005 12:32PM

Thanks for the offer Mick. Sorry we won't see you, maybe you can get up here in the Spring. Great pictures of the combine (and dust bowl), and Drew hanging out on the new deck! Rita heading for Texas, thinking of you Kris...Trying to fix my email, waiting for D,N,S,S & N,BB.

35 bu beans is a hell of a lot better than 12 ton beets

I think the name on the side of it says "The Green Reaper"
- Wed Sep 21 2005 8:58AM

I thought Dan was the only crazy person who gets excited over the big green machine!! Steve thinks about 35 bushel, Dan of course was hoping for 40!! I think he is happiest to be able to get back on the tractor plowing. This is good, now Kris can see the country!!
- Wed Sep 21 2005 7:18AM
Darrell
So what's up with that? I look foward to seeing if I can do it again each year! I will miss doing it. Anyways, I will be up Friday. Makes more time to do other things.
- Wed Sep 21 2005 6:27AM
Connie
My email is a mess... Would like you all to come up this weekend for sure, but won't need you to pull in the dock and hoists. Frank has aches & pains and has hired someone to do it this year. Doubt anybody will miss heaving on that monster hoist anyway! Come up for a nice swim!

I hear tomorrow is going to be another zinger! Enough of the high heat. It's not good for the harvested beets or my classroom. I think we will need more popsicles. Hi! to Texas! Where is the news from MSU?

- Tue Sep 20 2005 5:41PM

You go get me the water temp of the pond, and I might acutally care enough to figure out the temp of the pool
- Tue Sep 20 2005 10:41AM
MR
If ya woulda spent more time chopping weeds in the corn field with your dad this summer you'd be aclimated to that heat. I'd think you would follow your Aunt's lead and give the water temp of the apartement pool along with the air temp.

Good Morning, Here are webshots of Ash at MSU. It was a fun visit! Not many have customized beds! Darry was Drew's age when Lew and I were freshman/junior. I remember hearing his little footsteps on the polished tile floor...Drew will have to visit the girls!

Just packed up a whole lot of stuff for a tennis friend to truck down south. Her neighbor's family in Biloxi was wiped out, 3 of 4 homes are gone. Glad they are getting those poor folks out of there...Kris sounds like some are being transported to the Fort Worth area.

Yes! I managed to have 3 kids fed and dressed before Brandy arrived. We had a real pajama party. Everyone had a good night. We are ready to take on a fun day at the park. Love and kisses to all.

Arrived safely and picked up Drew. Everything is fine including Kooter. Drew is a happy camper. I hope Mom is holding up with all the hospital time. I did bring some work but seldom pick it up.

Gwen
I used the whole roll of film while waiting for her teacher to take her into the classroom...so on the third day when she begged to ride the bus I was too shocked to think about the camera. I'll snap a picture on tuesday though for sure!

Oh, Oh...I should have said, of the ten thousand pictures of Ash, we are still looking for a few more...

O.K. Connie are you trying to start a war with that comment about no picture of Ash!!! She already thinks we deprived her all her life!(just cause I cannot find one picture of her baptism) Had a blast with Drew last night, pizza, movies, swings and a bath. As long as you let him do everything himself, life is good. He was excited to know Grandma Sandy would pick him up today. Talked to Dan last night, all the books are sold, $1 each. Thanks to Nan. Enjoy the weekend.
- Fri Sep 2 2005 9:09AM
Connie
Brandy be sure to get a picture of Gwen at the school bus! We have the cutest picture of Kris on her first day of school, but are still looking for one of Ash. Maybe we could take one at MSU...Have a nice weekend!
- Fri Sep 2 2005 7:31AM

It was Gwen's first day on the bus! She loved it--said it was the best part of her day today. I don't know what Jeremy has been slipping into her milk these days but she thinks she is all grown up!

Thank heavens he made it out safely. At least he is in the right place to get TLC. I am working the tailgate for the football game tonight. Looking forward to some time with Drew. Hi! to all.

Thanks for the update Alissa. Good luck with the treatment...

I forgot to add that we found a picture of their condo on the internet. Their building is still standing although it looks like there is some damage to the roof. There were two other sets of buildings the same size as theirs (picture apartment complex four stories high) that are completely gone as is the commons building. They are hopeful that some of their things are still intact and have a friend who is going to try to get down there and take a look at the damage. The friends said there is no gas anywhere so they first need to get that in order to travel down to take a look.
- Thu Sep 1 2005 12:10PM
Alissa
Made it to Zion ok (it is north of Chicago). I almost missed my connecting train north, but I just made it. Writing you from the Treatment Center while the Dr. is looking at Roger. So far, everyone here is wonderful - it is much different (better) than normal hospitals. I could even get a massage here for stress relief if I need it (for free!). It looks like they are going to admit him because he is so dehydrated, but they will do 2 days of tests before we know what treatment they recommend. I hope Drew is good for you guys, I'll be back late Saturday night.

Looking forward to picking him up at school, seems like yesterday I was picking up a couple little girls and now look!! Ash will be home this weekend, think she is looking forward to that. I know I am. Glad Gwen likes school, makes it much easier on Mom. Enjoy the long weekend.

Good that Gwen didn't have any tears...how about her mom? I catch the train in Durand tomorrow at 7am. Mom and Roger are in Illinois, they have no idea as to the status of the condo. It was on the 4th floor, but they were in Gulfport right on the water so we'll see if it survived the wind.

Hello, beautiful day today, unlike down south! Can't believe Gwennie is going to school, she will have so much to tell you all when she gets home. Hugs to all!

Gwen got off to school today....no tears at all! She was pretty excited because she is working on making it all the way across the monkey bars so she was looking forward to recess. Too bad for her when they tell her she's too little to play on that part of the playground!

Getting ready to go to Chicago on Wednesday. Mom and Roger had to evacuate and are probably in Tenessee or Kentucky by now. Their condo is only about 100 yards from the gulf. She was upset that she could not pack everything, but at least they got the heck out of there!

Hard to believe Gwen is in Kindergarten. I inspected the lofts that Dan is building and can report that they will withstand the Freshman 15 easily.

Gwenny is off to kindergarten on Tuesday. We went to her classroom on Wednesday and she was excited to report to Dad that "she found her name on a box!" So, it must be that she is officially enrolled. We'll keep you posted on how day one goes...for Gwen and her parents!

There is one new resident on the 3rd floor(six flights of stairs)of campbell. All went well, ol Dan was as calm as can be. The true test will be friday night when we build the lofts!! Pretty quiet at 7325 grand blanc road.

Keep pushing mom, there's lot's of gradschools in South Africa, plus there isn't a biology professor at MSU working on animal nutrition of any kind so guess if I were to do gradschool it would have to be somewhere else ;-)

Kris if you miss school, there is a really great grad program at MSU, and it is much closer to your mom!! Pray for us on Wednesday, you all know how great Dan is in a crowd!! Of course, Ash still has to pack. Not to sure she is in a hurry to leave the farm. Wonder where she gets that from!!:)

We have lot's of exotic animals including 3 species of rhino's. I actually loved college (minus the tests and homework) so while it's strange not to buy text books, I wish I were learning more really cool things.
- Sun Aug 21 2005 8:17PM
Sandy
Kris, do you have any really exotic animals? We just took Drew an edition of the Wiggles that features Steve the crocidle guy at the zoo in Australia. It was a big hit. Have you explored the area yet to find some great attractions, how about casinoes? Tomorrow is teacher's day at school. Does it seem strange not to need to buy textbooks?
- Sun Aug 21 2005 7:53PM
Connie
Good Morning, it is bright and sunny! What a welcome change! Kris just working is OK, think about going back to classes...We like our new volunteer jobs at the hospital, or did I tell you that already? Frank is in the print shop and I am in Diabetes Education.
- Sun Aug 21 2005 9:39AM
Kris
Yeah, I have been here, not much going on other than work so I didn't have anything to talk about, but I am hear. Dad told me about the saginaw zoo, that's just horrible. The owners of those dogs need to be shot!!!!!!!!!!I'm not sure if you were talking to me or not, but just in case my address is 6220 Hulen Bend Circle, Apt 727, Fort Worth, TX 76132

Good Morning, raining again today. This must be the most exciting time for Ash...we wish her the very best. I remember Mom & Dad driving us to MSU-me a junior at Williams and Lew a freshman at Shaw Hall.
- Sat Aug 20 2005 7:14AM
MR
Kris, did you hear about the animals getting chewed on by Pit Bulls at the Saginaw Zoo?
- Fri Aug 19 2005 7:47PM
Sandy
Brandy I was too late to edit my error. Another sign of old age.
- Fri Aug 19 2005 6:22PM
Sandy
Somehow I erased your address in the computer, help!
- Fri Aug 19 2005 6:20PM
Sandy
Kris, you have been too quiet! How is life in Texas? I hope Ashley gets settled in safely. What dorm is she staying in? Gosh that brings back tons on memories! Lew and I are coming down to babysit with Drew Sat. and spend the night. I hope I can talk Lew into stopping at the church on our way down. I start school Monday!
- Fri Aug 19 2005 6:05PM
Kris
That would be a little red doxon
- Fri Aug 19 2005 4:02PM

What a coincedence! You're girls have moved out so you'll need a dog for some company and we're going to Kenton. Name your size and color.

Must be the week for sales, the big church rummage sale is this weekend. Lots of room in the new building!! Lena would have loved it.:) Move Ash to MSU on Wednesday. Should be quiet at my house, especially when Dan goes to Kenton.

Connie
Rained all night, still looks stormy. Not good for the Sidewalk Sales today. Charlevoix-Emmett County Fair starts Sunday, should clear up by then. Have a good weekend!

Connie
Hello to your folks Alissa.
- Thu Aug 18 2005 2:00PM
Connie
Have a good trip Alissa. Had our annual checkups in Petoskey today, the nurse was so excited about her trip downstate-to Saginaw! Now I know what Wiggles is/are, and that Jeff is one of them, not one of Drew's classmates...
- Thu Aug 18 2005 1:58PM
Alissa
Drew really liked the Wiggles; at school this morning he ran in and said (for the 50th time) "I saw the Wiggles!" He also told the Librarian last night who I am sure was really excited. We go to the Genesee County Fair tonight to see Uncle Dan and Aunt Rose with the animals. I will be taking the train to Chicago while you guys are packing for Kenton. Mom and Roger will be at a new treatment place in Zion Illinois for a couple of days so I am going to try the train route to get there. Only $34.00 round trip from Durand - you can't beat that!
- Thu Aug 18 2005 9:01AM
MR
We're leaving for Kenton on Thursday. Taking a trailer for Nick's Pokermon gear. Brandy, we had to wake up Jeff like 5 times during the Wiggles concert. Josh and Gwen are welcome to play on Drew's new play set. Just finished the climbing mountain last night.
- Thu Aug 18 2005 7:06AM
MR
Looks like they fixed the guestbook glitch.

When do you leave for Kenton? Did Nick find any guns and knives to sell? Tried to give him some coffee mugs but he didn't think so...
- Tue Aug 16 2005 11:31AM
Brandy
Have fun at the Wiggles Drew. I hope that silly Jeff isn't sleeping the whole time!
- Tue Aug 16 2005 7:59AM

HOME!!!!!!!!!!! Canada still sucks!
- Fri Aug 12 2005 11:15PM
MR
AuSable during hopper time sounds fun! I'd go with a 7' 4X leader to a size 8-10 Dave's hopper with a size 16 pheasant tail nymph tied 18" from the hook bend with 5X tippet and cast closs to the bank and under any type of overhaning cover. But thats just me. Mom, I got some waders you can borrow to handle the net and camera duties.
- Fri Aug 12 2005 9:03AM
Sandy
Happy Anniversary Mick and Alissa!!! We are heading to the AuSable for the weekend. Aunt Arlene is at Caseville. We had a nice little rain. How is life in Canada?

We quit visiting the Canadian casinos for that very reason. I thought $2.45 was bad for gas! Glad to hear from Kris. Did you buy yourself at pair of boots and a hat? I have been opening up my classroom but I can't say I am ready to return, Aug. 22nd. Just think, Gwen starts school this year too.
- Thu Aug 11 2005 3:44PM

Here's another song about Canada. MR
- Thu Aug 11 2005 6:40AM
Kris
There you go, that should work :)
- Thu Aug 11 2005 6:17AM
Kris
If you avoid the providence capitals... there are virtually no people so you can actually spread out. They have some great bars, HOCKEY IS LIFE, most of the boys are tall and good looking, and they have really hot accents:) So there you go I will work on finding the link to the lyrics to the arrogant worm song that explains all about canada, and after all Red Green comes out of Canada!!!!
- Thu Aug 11 2005 6:12AM
Darrell
Ok Kris, tell me one thing good about this place. They can't speak. Their money is screwed up. Everything is way expensive even after conversions. The food is NOT digestable. And $4 a gal for gas is unbelivable!
- Wed Aug 10 2005 9:40PM
MR
Check out Big Al's BBQ in Richardson. Right across from the MCI training center. Getting your fill of Texas Toast yet?
- Wed Aug 10 2005 4:30PM
Kris
Yes, I often frequent bars by myself, that'll be the day!!!!!
- Wed Aug 10 2005 2:17PM
MR
How's Canada compare to Texas for boring Telco training? I be they don't have a bar with a slide in Canada. Probably not 100 degrees either. Been to the grassy noll yet Kris?
- Wed Aug 10 2005 12:13PM
Kris
Any zoo pictures that I could take would involve ground up meat, dead rats, produce, and a bunch of stuff that looks like dog food, nothing really of interest. I could send you a whole bunch of pictures from Wilderness Trails if I can ever find my kodak cd so I can download my pictures. Mommy would you please do me a favor and look for that cd around the house, it might actually be in the white drawer rubbermade thing:)
- Wed Aug 10 2005 12:12PM
Connie
Nice to have you back Kris! 69 degrees and 99% humidity here, rained all night, clearing now..expected high 78. Zoo pictures will be appreciated!

Well we made it home late, but made it. Summary of Texas, hot, mega people, pretty, nice apartment, car broke down on freeway for 4 hours while Mom & Aunt Nan stress out in the airport. Fair statement is Nan & I spent a lot of money and could easily become alcoholics!! The zoo is awesome. Dan & I are off to the U.P. this weekend to work on Wesley house. Have a cool day!!:)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDY! Well, Kris should be moved in by now. Bailey is having a good time but will be happy to see Nan and the kids this weekend. Sandy another suggestion was sailboats...in place of the purple flower...
- Tue Aug 2 2005 7:04AM

Kris we traveled into your old stompin' grounds. We found a fishing spot on the Fox River. The bad news was the rain and lightening shortened the trip. Can't wait to hear how Texas compares to the U.P. The chairs look great! I'll see if I can't find that pattern for the large purple flower! Happy Birthday Brandy and Connie!

Oh yes, Margie wrote us a note: 'You would have been proud of your brother Dan, Sunday. Rose, Ashley & Dan went to Washington DC to work on a house & church. Dan got up in church and told about their experience.'

Correction: It was much hotter in Mississippi than it was here. We didn't even go to the beach (the gulf is right across the road from my mom's condo) because it was so hot. We had a good time with Grandma and Grandpa though. I had to stay home not only to clean up after Mick, but to recover from 8 hours of traveling with a 2 year old who loves to run! Sorry we missed the party; sounds like it was a good time.
- Tue Jul 26 2005 1:30PM

Drew and Alissa got back last night about 7:00. Sounds like it was as hot down there as it was up here. Alissa had to stay home from work and clean the house after the wild party we had for Kris.

Nick and I took the Kayaks down the Manistee river at Parks'Place Saturday. 4 Hours from the CCC Bridge to just west of Sharon road. Got permission to load and unload from our neighbors (Reynolds/Pluger)on the river. MR don't run him off the property! Even had New York Strips on the campfire! Hopefully Aunt Nan will be able to help. Plans are to leave Michigan the 29th. Of course Dan is telling everyone we are taking her for me,we all know better than that. Then August 24 we move the princess to MSU! Good thing lil Dickie likes to eat supper at our house, won't be many at the table. I think he gets that from his Dad. I hope to have a get together before Kris leaves, have no idea when, any suggestions??

What do you need furniture for? There should be plenty of extra straw and room with one of the critters! Were up for donations. I can even ship UPS too. No driving for me. I had enought driving for a couple years!

We would chip in money for that. You even have a UPS packaging expert up in the Thumb to help!

I have a much better idea. If all the family members would each chip in a hundred bucks Kris can buy a plane ticket and buy new furniture in Texas. UPS the rest and give Dan and Rose a break from hauling furniture. Trust me its not a pretty sight

Dan/Lew/Mick: Sesquicentennial farm certification-all you have to do is complete a one page form to update the original information. You don't need to complete the long form I downloaded from their website. I will get the form, but not until next year...They provide a small 150 tag to attach to the original centennial farm sign, at no cost.

Tell the queen I went hunting the morning after getting all 4 wisdom teeth out so its not that bad. Just keep the Vicadin going! Dad and I caught a few fish in Grayling over the weekend. It's Monday already, actually the air conditioning feels pretty good. Dan will be thrilled about that picture, he has wanted that forever. Ash & I are off to MSU tomorrow for orientation, she will be spending the night. We will look for your friends Connie. Or if your not busy you could take my place!! Kris has a phone interview with Ft. Worth Zoo on Wednesday, she's really excited. Can't say the same for her parents!! Thursday Ms. Ash gets all 4 wisdom teeth out, so we'll be waiting on her all weekend. Wish I was up on the lake today, enjoy the swimming for us.

Good Morning! Cooler today, with a chance of rain. Whatever we might plan for the 150th party, Uncle Hank wants to get Henry C's picture there...He liked the pictures of cousins Mary and Marla at Ash's party. Thought it was a nice party, and so did we.

Kris was thrilled to see all of you!! We will be praying for Jeremy's dad. One of the lawyers that I work with husband had the same thing a couple years ago, had surgery and now has a CAT scan every three months. All is well, extremely treatable.

Just a little update. Some of you know that Jeremy's dad was at the doctor last week for an injury that they did a CAT scan on. That checked out OK, but they found cancer in one of his kidneys. He was at the specialist yesterday and was told that it looks to be contained and is likely not a spreading type of cancer. He will have surgery next Thursday. Cross your fingers for him that everything turns out as expected!

I think you knew Mick and I are coming tonight, but just in case I wanted to let you know. Drew is sooo excited to see Gwen and Josh tonight, as soon as he woke up this morning he said "See Gwen and Joshie?". He had his first dentist appointment today. He liked the stickers, elmo toothbrush, and toy cars he got to take home, but didn't care for three of us holding him down so the dentist could look in his mouth. All looked great, but the dentist said he will need braces eventually - great genes from his mom and dad! I guess that is a good heads up to start saving money now!
- Tue Jun 7 2005 12:33PM

Our best wishes to Lura! Good luck tonight Ash! Power just came back on, off since 7am. A tree fell and knocked down a light pole in town...back to paneling, 5 up & 2 to go.

I did like the big slide. Too bad it was $6 each time. We got our money's worth though because Drew insisted on walking up the steps by himself. A lot faster on the way down. We'll have to hit the slide in Caseville this summer.

Looks like we went to the wrong place in Big Bay. I had my facts wrong. The Thunder Bay Inn is where the movie was shot. The Lumberjack Tavern is where the guy was shot! From the looks of the website, the Inn is nowhere near as classy as The Lumberjack. The probably don't even have a "Bait Pile" on their menu or live music.

1 fish? At $2+ a gal and 20 miles a gal and 150 miles each way. That makes for some expensive and limited eating. Getting away from everything,,,,,Priceless!

Joshy didn't win a prize but his picture was in the community newspaper from when he went to a train event at the library. I think the bold Thomas shirt got him that honor! That and the smile that doesn't leave his face when you are talking on his favorite subject!

Good Morning! Black-eyed susans are gorgeous here, prickly pear cactus are blooming on the trail, magnolias are just beginning to open. Maybe morels will be ready when we get home, trillium too. It will be great to see you all!

Kris sounds like your research went well. Good going. I told U. Hank that you would be looking for a zookeeper job. He wrote 'You tell Kris that she needs only to corral some of the monkeys and apes running loose in this country with drivers licenses... That would save a lot of lives, preventing many accidents...

Ok so I am going crazy its actually Acid Detergent Fiber, but anyway here's directions to my house in marquette. As you come into marquette you will come past the prison along the lake. YOu will come into town. Do NOT Stay with US 41 traffic, keep right. You will come into down town. Halfway up the hill (Marquette is built on a mountain) there will be a stop light. This is washington ave. if you go past the landmark inn, you went too far. Turn left onto washington ave. Go past the Ramada Inn and turn right at the Border Grill Resturant. Go past the second stop light two very short blocks, and turn left (left only possible) at the Big Northern Michigan Universtiy sign, onto fair ave. My house is in the second block on the left.
- Sat Apr 23 2005 9:54AM
Kris
It's Acid Dietary Fiber... and its for my African Hoofstock paper not my anole project, which turned out to a 31 page paper, so forgive me if that's all I have to talk about, its kinda what my life revolves around at the moment!!!!!!!!!!!!! 14 DAYS

Good Morning! Glad to hear you are doing OK Rose. I just talked with Aunt Mary, cousin Louis Rosenthal's wife Judy passed away on the 19th. There was no service. It was sudden, she had planned to bring a dish to pass at the anniversary party. I will send a card from all of us.

Linde hopes to visit us in Marquette for graduation. Soccer tournament in Frankenmuth tomorrow and back to the doctor on monday. I'll keep you posted.

You would not belive how long they examined the shells. I finally put the box on the carpet so they could dig through. At the end of the day I picked up the box and they begged me to keep it at school. Good thing shells are made of hardy stuff. Thank again!

Ya I saw some flowers in the woods. I guess the dry weather is causing the few morels that they're finding up north to be really tiny.

Amen to that mommy, you people are sick. I think instead of taking care of the cats, you should be trying to figure out ways to take care of the sick people that let them get that bad!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday Alissa! Did you have any plans to come north? Was'nt sure if we would be seeing you soon? Maybe we could meet somewhere? Let's check and see what the males have in store for the weekend.
Connie, is everything back to normal or does he still have periods of weakness? The paralysis makes me think of Mike the ticks make me think of our time in Ohio. I hope things are getting back to normal.

I have a contract to clear out over 100 cats at a house and barn down the road. Can't decide which is weapon of choice! Thinking maybe a can of tuna and the shotgun for the first round. Then the 22 when the rest of them wont come in close. What do you think MR?
- Tue Apr 12 2005 4:26PM
Kris
Those blasted ticks!!!!!!!!
- Tue Apr 12 2005 2:25PM

Hi Guys! Bucky got to come home with us, steroids seem to be the answer to 'tick bite paralysis'. What a day!

I once heard tell of a kid in the thumb who was contracted to control the local feral cat population by his parents and the neighbor. Only stipulation was not to shoot the neighbor's "house cat" that was all white with the calico tail(could only use the low-powered BB gun on that one when nobody was looking). What terrible carnage! Good thing they didn't have digital cameras back then.
- Tue Apr 12 2005 12:37PM
Kris
In Wisconsin there are a bunch of people who have proposed the legalization of hunting feral cats as small game. It made me think of the men in our family. Guess they are getting bored with shooting woodchucks, now they want to move on to cats... I of course put in my vote for NO!! on that one!!!
- Tue Apr 12 2005 12:21PM

Happy Birthday Alissa! We will be ordering 2 tubs of cookie dough for you! (Sam please adjust our order to 4 tubs...)

Thanks guys, Bucky is getting checked out by his Village Vet, glad to get out of the Emergency Clinic (Leesburg) and closer to home. He's not doing well, but hoping for the best.
- Mon Apr 11 2005 11:03AM
MR
If Connie can take pictures of flowers and Nort can take pictures of coins then I'll say the dead stuff makes for pretty good photo oppurtunities. The fish are biting now so you'll soon be treated to lots of the classic fish in the hand pictures. I feel bad for the poor critters that just get flung in the brush. It's probably every woodchuck's dream to make it into a hero pic.
- Mon Apr 11 2005 10:54AM
Kris
Oh don't get me wrong, I am all about death to the woodchucks, I just think its a tad sadistic that you take pictures of everything you kill like you need proof that you acutally killed it!
- Mon Apr 11 2005 10:29AM
MR
I fed the vulturs with the carcass. Hopefully crows and coyotes too. A nice 80 yard shot from the computer room door. Hopefully, this carnage will cause more carnage.
- Mon Apr 11 2005 8:04AM
Rose
O.K., this is a bit scary!! At least Dad fed the vulchers with the dead woodchucks. M.R. that deck would go much faster if you stay in the back yard!!!:) Dan took the Ford to be overhauled saturday, seems to have a problem. There goes all that big money he made last year!!lol (I can safely say this since he is computer illiterate)
- Mon Apr 11 2005 7:30AM
MR
Sounds like Kris should sign on to the John Kerry family homepage where they put little flower arrangements in all the woodchuck holes around the farm and rope off sections of beans to save for each family of 'chucks.:) Hang in there Bucky.
- Mon Apr 11 2005 6:51AM
Kris
Leave it to our family to celebrate carnage. MR is that what you would call a trophy woodchuck???
- Sun Apr 10 2005 7:55PM
Darrell
From the picture it looks like you are ready to send that one to the taxidermist. Went back fishing tonight too. Cought about a dozen in 5 min. Saw 7 of the gold fish swimming together. They are about 8 inches long and are bright orange. Get well soon Bucky.

Two woodchucks this weekend. One behind the neighbors shed at about 15' with the .22 the other off the ditch back from behind Dan's barn at 115 yards with the .22 Mag. I skinned the one in the picture out to tie flies with. Caught a few bluegills in the pond today. The hybrid blue gills I planted are about triple the size from when I put them in last spring.

The rabbit was Thumper. His story was on TV and in the Flint Journal. Jack & Vince sure admired Dad, they all had some pretty tall tales to tell. Just like some other guys we know. Have a nice day, enjoy the sunshine!

Just read that our cousin Vincent Battin passed away. His funeral is Saturday. His brother Jack helped with our family history. Some of us remember visiting Ward & Lottie Battin, Porter Road, Grand Blanc. Remember the potty-trained rabbit?

Didn't know you could find woodchucks with a metal detector?
- Thu Apr 7 2005 6:55AM

We figured with the new homesteaders there wouldn't be any critters left to shoot!
- Wed Apr 6 2005 8:44PM
MR
Spring is here officially. Drew and I dug some worms and walked to the pond. Saw a really lethargic woodchuck by the shack north of the junk pile. Must've just crawled out of the hole. Drew didn't have any luck fishing with worms but we did see a bass rise to a bug of some kind. Woodchuck holes all over the creek bank. If Nort and Nick would put down the nerd detectors and pickup the rifles Dan's bean crop might have chance!
- Wed Apr 6 2005 7:46PM
Connie
Good Morning, switched over to the Magic game, still it was a good run to the finals. So what are Dan and Rose doing for their anniversary, remember the nice party last year...

If Drew could read he would say "GO WHITE" - his latest trick!
- Tue Apr 5 2005 2:39PM

Done! Really nice find! Put the picture at the end of the Easter Album. How is Nick? And where is Sam? There is a big celebration party tonight in Indianapolis after the Championship game, MSU vs. Baylor, win or lose. Ice cream from the MSU Dairy will be served... GO GREEN!
- Tue Apr 5 2005 10:43AM
Darrell
Stayed home with Nick today and went metal detecting on Beers road. Found a 1902 Indian Head penny, a coat button and a womans lapel pin. All were found within a couple feey from each other so I figure they were lost about the same time. The penny is in excellant shape. Maybe Connie will put in her Webshots!
- Mon Apr 4 2005 9:30PM
Connie
I have to admit I stayed up to watch the end of the game but fell asleep during those long commercials...heard the score this morning.
- Mon Apr 4 2005 3:14PM
Alissa
Anyone else who would like to come over for the game is welcome....Nancy?? Hopefully it is an earlier start, otherwise I don't know if I will be able to stay awake. It was hard getting up this morning, it could also be the 4:30am wake up call Drew gave me.
- Mon Apr 4 2005 3:08PM
Rose
I can't believe those Spartan ladies, I really can't believe I missed it. Lucas-Perry had lots of practice at Powers. I think they won state two or three times. You can bet tomorrow I will not be leaving early, I can certainly walk home, have done it many many times. Hey Alissa, what's for supper??!!:) Glad you got reservations, that Holiday Inn was just re-done. For the rest of you, if no hotels are available, I know of a couple rooms in Ishpeming!!! We will not be stopping on the way home, everyone's vehicles will be full of furniture, guinea pigs, etc. Not sure where we will be moving it to, maybe Swartz Creek, North Dakota, Indiana etc. Swartz Creek would be a good choice, of course she was counseled by two aunts over spring break.(not to move home) Sorry Kris, but Ash was at her worse.(no one knows what that is better than you) Soccer starts tonight, if she plays anything at MSU, soccer will likely be it. Time will tell.
- Mon Apr 4 2005 12:24PM
MR
That was quite a game. Dan and Rose game up on them 5m into the second half and went home. They were down about 16 at the time and it looked like a blow-out. I watched the rest of it and saw Ash's former Flint Powers nemisis Victoria Lucas-Perry turn the tables with two timely 3's. Then the monster in the paint Kelly Rorhig, who Rose and I thought was playing terrible, took-over and provided some points. And they did all of that without Granny Granholm even in attendance.
- Mon Apr 4 2005 10:47AM
Connie
You all can come to the lake after graduation! We'll be there May 2. Morels will be ready soon after...I think May 28 will be putting in the dock day. Hope you can come up!

Connie
How about those Lady Spartans! Bet Ash could make the team!
- Mon Apr 4 2005 10:28AM

Kris, you will have three more people at graduation - I just booked our room at the Holiday Inn. I am sure Drew will like the pool! We are looking forward to it! (not the drive, just seeing you!)

Ash made it home yesterday, mean and nasty as ever. I told Alissa last night remind me of this in August, it was such a peaceful house last week. Mom always told me some day I'll miss it, not anytime soon!!!:)

Frank, do you need your shotgun?! Seeing as to how you missed the Easter shooting maybe you could practice on real birds! I am sure those farts would understand.

Good Morning, No win but getting to the Final Four has been pretty exciting! Go Lady Spartans! Kris that cardinal that your Mom thought was a reincarnation, it's still here. He messes up the cars and mirrors, stuck up the window mechanism on our neighbors 2001 Cadillac, cost over $150 to get it fixed...need to keep the plastic bags tied on.

Heard from Ash yesterday, she & Kelli are happy eating lots of seafood & it is REALLY HOT!! I think she will be ready to come home, not to see me, but Adam. By the way Adam & 2 of his buddies are on their way to St. Louis this weekend, yep, you guessed it they were lucky enough to be drawn from the Izzo section and get to see all three games. About the time Nancy has visitors, we'll be on our way to the U.P. to rescue a zookeeper!:)

We are enjoying having the house to ourselves again.(or at least I am)Suppose to hit 50 today, WOOHOO!!

I'm afraid Ash will probably be joining them from the stands!! She did play AAU with a couple of the girls, so that's pretty cool!! I heard from several people at church how cute Drew was waving his palm coming down the aisle. Should be fun to see Alissa keep him in the pew this week!!! Sunny & 42 sounds awesome to me, since we have had many white Easters. Ash leaves friday morning for Clearwater Beach, 1st Easter with no bunny at our house, of course MR killed him anyway!!:)

Back from fishing Higgins Lake. We did the best last night from 7-midnight but that was only about a dozen smelt and perch a piece. Better than nuthin'. There were tons of trucks out on the ice. Probably about 2' of ice out there still. We had a good time. The cabin looks real nice and the beds are quite and upgrade. Hard to believe Nort gets all that work done. He is glued to the tv watching basketball all weekend.

Well everyone but me is ready for the big Easter gig. The days are going fast. Let's do dinner at 1:00, hopefully that will allow time for everyone going to church. As usual I'll do the meat (turkey and ham)and the bread. Pick any other dish you wish to bring. Rose did say she would do deviled eggs and baked beans. Everything else is up for grabs. Hopefully we will not have to shovel the eggs out of the snow, guess we'll have to wait and see. Hope you all can come. Connie, maybe Darrell can do a little video clip of the hunt for you or, if you start now you will still have time to come up for the real thing. We'll miss you.
- Tue Mar 15 2005 8:02AM

That's OK Mick, I've had more years to practice! Nice album, easy to use. My favorite is Alissa cutting the cake with Drew pulling on her arm, and the kids waiting to eat. I knew that was Nick...also saw Grampa Lew & Gwennie. Maybe we can see Grandma Sandy & Josh at Jeremy's party...

Finally back to work today after being off since February 24th! I guess that is what vacation and sick time is for. We went to the Dr. yesterday for Drew's follow up check and everything looks good. He definitely knows that he is going to be 2 on Saturday - he wants to do everything himself and throws temper tantrums on every little thing. I think Mick and I have had 10 movies thrown at us in the last three days - I guess that's what we get for not reading minds! See some of you on Saturday!

So happy to hear about the guy in the blue snowsuit! We had a fun day today, Kris drove the golfcart, Nan bought delicious oranges, Frank played tennis, and BB & BJ had a nice long walk on the trail this morning. 18 days to go-that's the word from Sam and she will be out of there too! Hugs to all!

Already put in a request for oranges. Better test them before lugging them back. Nothing worst than buying apples or grapes and finding out they taste like $#!% when you get home!

Glad they made it!! As Dan put it, who would every ask Connie for motel advice except Nan. Connie probably didn't even know if they had showers!!!:) Kris in Florida, Adam in California and the rest of us left in Michigan. We live here why? The good news is there was a little boy dressed in a blue snowsuit on a sled riding through my back yard saturday. Have a good week and Florida oranges would be welcome!:)

Yes I know about kingsnake.com we used it in our back ground research. Our lizards are Anolis carolinensis the green anole. The brown anoles are Anolis sagreii, they are originally from the carribean and are not native to the Southeast US even though they are highly prevelant. I know nobody really cares, but hey I figure you asked for it!!!!!!!! :) Anything you want to know about ruminating ungulates in Africa??????? lol

Beautiful Day in the Villages! Actually it is sunny & 67, just got back from tennis and a bike ride. Walked a new trail this morning with BJ, saw five deer and one black slinky animal near the swamp, not a beaver?? BJ got in the swamp, had to hose him down when we got back. We're all happy to be home safe and sound. Thanks for all the calls, notes, and visits. Drew looks to be back to normal and it didn't take long for him to learn to run again. No more wobbly legs. Here's a picture that our photographer took that wound up on the cover of a pamphlet. - MR

We were discharged today at 1pm. Drew is doing well, still a little wobbly on his feet, but in good spirits. They diagnosed him with viral meningitis and figured the couple of seizures were caused by a temperature spike. The docs and nurses were great, but we were glad to come home. We take him in on Monday to make sure he is progressing, but other than just watching him there are no restrictions. Thanks for all of the calls and prayers. See you soon.

Lastest on Drew. We're in the pediatric ward at Genisys. Doc wants to keep us there for 72 hours to monitor the virus that it looks like he picked up. We talked to the head-honco pediatrician and she said this will just have to run its course. He's mainly at the hospital because he is throwing up everything and the IV keeps him hydrated. I just came home to get some puke and pee free clothes and we'll be staying up there for at least a couple more nights. Again, Doc says he'll be ok.
- Tue Mar 1 2005 10:45AM

Now that Lew has everyone worrying, I will share what I know. Mick & Alissa took him to Genesys last night, spoke with Mick this morning and they are still running multiple tests. Drew has an IV and has been vomitting. Will let you know as soon as we do. Prayers are welcome!!

We are currently in the middle of a snow "storm" which basically means that to keep up with the snow I have to shovel every hour, I am so looking forward to what I can consider HOT weather :)
- Sun Feb 27 2005 1:24PM
Connie
Wow, that's a lot of snow! Raining here...but sunnier days are predicted during the time Nan & Kris are here. 75 degrees was the average for the week of March 6. Not sure about the weather along I75. Have a good week!

Nick and I just got back from Parks'Place. -5 and sunny this morning with about 18 inches of snow. Good thing for 4-wheel drive! We had a blast sledding down the hill into the pond. Plowed out the drivway this afternoon at home. About 8 inches on the ground here.

Kris
Abosolutely, next week at this time we will be driving away from the snow:)

Good Morning! Cute picture of Drew, thanks Mick! Thanks Rose for letting us know about Thelma. She was a good friend of Mom's, and all of us. She was quite an artist, she painted the oak tree and cornfield as she and Mom would see it when they were walking up from the woods.

Speaking of Drew's birthday, we are having his party on his birthday - March 12th at noon. The invitations will go out today. We will have lunch and cake and ice cream. I just need a rough head count closer to the date for ordering food. Hope you all can make it! As for the other birthday boy, we might be able to throw together some type of cake on the 9th. Once you are over 30 you don't need parties anymore....right???

Eh, somehow rabbit hunting has no thrill when theres no sport and no dog. All I have to say is you had better plan on eating that bunny. I'm just glad to here that someone is taking care of the dog since ash doesn't appear to be taking to good care of the cat!!!

Even a .22 snob would be proud of this shot. I jumped him from the thin brush pile just south of the bridge and plugged him before he could get to the next pile to the south. Pretty quick for me. A lot of #5's in his rear end. Next thing will be the over-under snobs checking in. Ha Ha.

What's with the shotgun? Where is the sport in that? Oh, I forgot you been hanging around with Dan to long! Just BSing.

If not, its a pic of a bunny I shot this morning. I saw him when I walked the lane to feed Jake. I came back to get the shotgun then walked back and jumped him from the same spot.

Article_about_towers
Here's an article in the Flint Journal about the 4 radio towers on the SW corner of GB and Morrish. Lewis Isaac from the store on the NE corner is quoted. Its annoying to see the blinking red lights to the West when walking the lane but like Dan says at least its not another subdivision. Hard to believe it takes 4 towers and 45 acres to power a christion radio station. And they only have 1000 listeners.

Hi Happy Valentine's Day Everybody! Just went shopping for a new car/van for BJ to ride in. Glad all worked out well at MSU for you guys. From our conference call I found out that Nutritional Science went to College of Natural Science not Agriculture, all of our programs are being realigned...still not finished mixing us up!

Good morning, We survived MSU on Friday & Saturday. Met with the head of Nutritional Science, he remembered Ash from our earlier visit. She made it through the test, spoke with Honors College folks and the athletic department. Lots of questions answered and more decisions to make. I had fun with the Creek boys. It was a big day at MSU, Founders day, new president, 150th celebration. To say the least, campus was busy. Off to Marquette to the dog sled run this Thursday. Get to see Ms. Kris!!! Have a good week.

Those snowmen were Frosty and his lesser known son Fred. I yanked my back out putting in Frosty's belly. Worst thing is that he's all melted now. Oh well, he'll be back again someday.

Good Morning! I think the snowmen & farm picture is one of the best ever! Glad you are on the mend Alissa...not fun. Would love to have a picture of the kids...if you are under 60 you are still a kid! Frank is playing a tournament in Tampa tomorrow, wish him good luck..

I have had the flu since Wednesday night and Mick has been doing Drew duty every day/night since. Now he knows what it is like to be a single parent! We could have had Dan and Ash down for supper, but I didn't want to be blamed for passing germs again! It will be nice when I have more to say on this message board than I am sick (which has been three bouts in the last month).
- Mon Feb 7 2005 11:06AM
Kris
Now thats not true, I know that he had hamburgers while you were gone, because the only liver he(or should I say ash) could find was frozen, so he did attempt to cook for himself:)
- Mon Feb 7 2005 9:38AM

I'll make sure Dan looks on the web page. Not his thing you know. Nice barn behind the snowmen, don't ya think!! He had a good day, 2 flannel shirts, new boots and a big new air compressor. Guess you probably know which one he likes the most. Ash and I took him to Outback for supper. He got his ARP card in the mail saturday, and one of his favorite(or should I say, was one of his favorite) nieces had her Sunday School class sing to him. I was gone all weekend,I think Dan's main diet was choc chip cookies thanks to Nan. It isn't even deer hunting season and he didn't have to share them!!:) He got your card Connie, no scary pictures. Have a good week.

Well were back. Wallets a little lighter but other than that we had a great time. Thanks to Mom and Dad and Dan and Rose for the babysitting and airport taxi service. The men's final was on TV while we were walking somewhere and I kicked myself for not putting a bet on the underdog.

I knew there was something I wanted to share, Mary Orr was moved to Fostorian Manor last week. I don't know if you knew she fell again after she got home. Reinjured her knee and broke another bone. J.D. said she is very depressed and on a strick diet. That would depress anyone. Looks like she will be restricted to bed rest for at least 12 weeks. Dan & I plan to visit her soon. I think Ash plays in Flushing this Thursday, so maybe we can go early and visit her. I'll try to keep you posted.

Hi Everybody-just gave BJ a bath. Rose was correct, the Florida Greenways are swamps! He plunked down in one of them...

We know all about crazy cardinals. We have one that flys into the window repeatedly then goes to the other side of house and flys into the windows there. Mom and Dads friend said that cardinals are people who have died. Since this one has been here for 2 years now we have decided its Lena. Mom seems to think maybe Lena went down to FL to visit you guys. LOL, I know we are way to crazy!!!!!!!

Good Morning! Nice day today, those crazy cardinals are still attacking the car mirrors in our neighborhood. We have towels and plastic bags covering them. Glad I didn't put my nesting cardinals Christmas wreath outside, they would have been worse than robins.

Yeah I know, I am pretty lucky, although I have to admitt I have had my share of the Wiggles for the rest of my life, and I made the mistake of finding Cookie Monstor talking on the Web, so Drew kept pulling me into the computer room saying C is for Cookie, although its more like C Cookie. But hey can't complain we did get to watch Doc Phil!!!!!

Hi there! Kris has the best job, taking care of that little guy. Glad he is feeling better. Must have been quite a snow storm...80 degrees here. Frank is making a pizza, anybody want the recipe? Smells great!

Only took me 2 hours to get to work today. I wimped out and "worked from home" yesterday while Kristen watched Drew. She's watching him again today. Aside from not sleeping too well last night he's doing a lot better. He needs to get out of the house soon though. He can now recognize "Doc Phil" and Oprah.

No school today for the kids. We only got about 3 inches this morning. All of Lansing is closed down too. I am on my way to the other side of Lansing this morning. Should be fun!

Good Morning, I'm updating the Parks Family Timeline. Let me know what you want included, what happened in 2004? What is expected to happen in 2005? Thanks!

Mick is doing Drew duty today because he is still sick with the croup. I am finally back to work today after not leaving the house since Friday! Drew sounds like a barking seal, but other than that is getting better. I hope this is our one and only sickness over the winter. I think I need to buy stock in the Kleenex Company!
