Happy Birthday Darrell! We just returned from the UP. The weather was WINDY on our return trip. We had lots of fun but did not bring home buckets of money. Happy New Years to All!

Maybe TDS should bury that stuff. Hope you got some OT out of the deal. I doubt they will run much corn this week. Still really wet and weather man says highs in the 40s until this Sunday.

Darrell
Heading up this morning. The truck is warming up now. Had a semi truck hit a 200 pair cable yesterday about 3:00 pm. It broke 8 telephone poles and pulled a bunch of drops (wires going to indivudle homes) off too. Didn't get home last night until after midnight. So much for getting that buck this morning!
- Wed Dec 31 2003 7:14AM
Kris
Dad didn't post that what are you thinking. MR, dad wants you to call him on ash's cell phone (624-0006) if they combine the corn, just leave a message if its not on. Tomarrow is day one of Disney, we are gonna go with the 80 billion other people to see the new years eve fire works :)

Yup,we made it down here all safe and sound. We spent all day today at busch gardens with about 10 million other people, but hey we got to spend all day outside in the seventy degree weather. We will be thinking of all of you tomarrow when we go to Coco beach :)
- Mon Dec 29 2003 10:48PM
Bucky
Happy Birthday to me!
- Mon Dec 29 2003 10:48AM

Thanks to everyone who helped with the painting this weekend. All the priming is done and the garage and basement stairs have a finish coat. The cement board is also ready for tiling thanks to the quick work of Lew and Sandy! The other Parks should be enjoying some warm weather in FL by now! Good for us too since we may be using their "facilities" while they are away - good thing we also have an outhouse to use since ours is out of commission! See you all soon!
- Sun Dec 28 2003 9:12PM

Good Morning, only 4 more days left this year. Congratulations to Heather & Danni, they are going to have a baby in August, says Aunt Margie.

Popcorn Balls at christmass are as important as (real) rolls at Thanksgiving. You don't think about them ahead of time, but we would all bitch if there weren't any! THANKS
- Mon Dec 22 2003 4:27PM
Alissa
Drew and I are enjoying a few days together since I do not go back to work until next Monday. I bet Brandy is enjoying the break too! Looks like the house will be ready to paint this next weekend so anyone who would like to help is welcome! At first we were going to rent a heavy duty sprayer and try to be like the professionals and then we thought "who are we kidding" and figured we would just roll it all like the amateurs we are. I am more excited about the deals I just got at Sears with all of the appliances - it pays to do your homework and talk them down! Drew is looking forward to his first Christmas at Aunt Nancy's house and is looking for new furniture to pull himself up on. He is pretty daring and thinks he can stand on his own! Look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday!
- Mon Dec 22 2003 2:27PM
Connie
Glad we are still having popcorn balls! It just wouldn't be the same without them. Bucky smells like French purfume, he is so pretty. Doubt that he can stay that way. Bailey also got a new do, she's guarding the tree today!
- Mon Dec 22 2003 1:35PM
MR
Well his condition can't be blamed on dragging the deer anyway. Walking all over the county yes and maybe the 9 extra pounds from carrying my rifle didn't help but I did the bulk of the draggin'. I'm not that ungreatful to a good deer dog. Next time you go hunting with Dan remember you jacknife. I was glad for his dull, broken off 2" knife however since it was better than using my teeth!
- Mon Dec 22 2003 11:01AM
Rose
Thanks for the pix MR, looks much better with hide on it!! It almost killed the old dog, he still can barely stand or walk!! Good thing they got some venison, since Dan will prolli be on disability soon. Drew had fun at the Christmas program at church last night, he liked all those lil kids. Even had Alissa helping in the kitchen, thats where it all starts.:) Wouldn't Grandma be proud!! We know the feeling, of course Uncle Dan is thrilled, everyone comments how cute Drew is and how much he looks like a Parks! Decorated cookies at Nan's yesterday and popcorn balls are on for tonight!! See everyone Wednesday.
- Mon Dec 22 2003 9:46AM
Connie
The new house is beautiful! Ready to start painting?
- Sun Dec 21 2003 4:45AM

- Sat Dec 20 2003 11:15PM

- Sat Dec 20 2003 7:30PM

Got a doe with the muzzleloader today. Someone else's cripple this time. We cut a track with blood in it and managed to get around her to finish the job. Click my name for the pic.

Happy Birthday Ash! I honked as I went by, did you get the message?
- Sat Dec 20 2003 7:05PM
Darrell
Lots of deer at Parks' Place. All does and dinks in the driveway. The neighbor up there got a buck off Nan's on The day befor Turkey Day. About a foot and a half of snow in the drive.
- Sat Dec 20 2003 4:51PM

Got home OK, a white-out in EJ, now more snow here! It must be Christmas, or almost Christmas! Frank is baking cookies and the house smells wonderful! Got my picture project all done for the memorial service, Burness would like it! Will honk as I go by tomorrow! See you soon!

No need to bring anything, just yourselves. MERRY CHRISTMAS
- Thu Dec 18 2003 10:59AM
Gwen
Josh and I took our first ride on the sled. Well, as the big sisiter I only thought it would be fair if I did most of the riding and let Josh stumble around in the snow. Maybe for Christmas I will ask for a sled engine. Mom pulls slow!
- Thu Dec 18 2003 10:36AM
Connie
Happy Holidays from Aunt Mary! Today is her birthday. They have about 4" of snow. Don's sister Joyce who lives in Marquette will come and pick her up for Christmas.
- Thu Dec 18 2003 10:11AM
MR
Hell no. #6's only hurt for a little while.
- Thu Dec 18 2003 9:52AM
Darrell
No limit on does. Only 2 bucks. Nick and I went bunny hunting last night. He had a perfect chance but passed because he couldn't see me in the brush. It was a safe shot but I'm glad he questioned it! That wouldn't have stopped Dan or MR from blasting away. Would it MR?
- Thu Dec 18 2003 8:58AM
Connie
The swans are still swimming on the lake, no ice yet. It has been snowing lightly, maybe 1-2 inches of new snow. Will give you an update before you head north. What is the limit on deer?
- Thu Dec 18 2003 5:11AM
Darrell
How much snow in EJ? Is the lake froze over?

Connie
Good to hear from you Brandy. Can't wait til Christmas!
- Wed Dec 17 2003 9:44PM

I'm home. Jeremy should be in this morning, but we won't see him until after work. I got lots of hugs and kisses from the kids...Joshy won't even let me leave the room! Gwen can't stop talking about all the stuff that she did "with her own Grandma!" It was a great trip and now we are ready to be home and look forward to the holidays!
- Wed Dec 17 2003 7:07AM

MR
Rose, I'd be more worried about the bonfires in your back yard everytime a building goes down.
- Fri Dec 12 2003 4:12PM
Darrell
Rose I don't understand I walk to the woods a couple times a day with my rifle on my shoulder too. Doesn't everyone do that? Mind you, my trips are a lot shorter. MR what room is going to have the reloading bench in it? I suggest one close to the deck!
- Fri Dec 12 2003 3:42PM
Rose
Bad enough I had to live there all those years with people thinking Dad was some kind of terrorist, always with a gun slung over his shoulder. Sorry folks, ain't no country on GB Road anymore, more like city!!! Kris should be across the Big Mac by now, been a little hard to focus today. Glad when she arrives home.
- Fri Dec 12 2003 3:29PM
Alissa
That's what he thinks!
- Fri Dec 12 2003 2:24PM
MR
Don't worry Nort, I thought of that. The deck we build this spring will have a gun vise and spotting scope bracket. I'm going to have it so I can just run a string into the house and give a pull whenever I see a woodchuck.

You guys sure think alike! In his Christmas card, Uncle Hank wrote- I especially appreciate the view from his (Mickey's) bay window. The oaks... and the stonepile. That stone pileplace is where I used to zero in my new deer guns.
- Fri Dec 12 2003 4:26AM
Darrell
MR We should have put the weight bench up stairs by the south wall. Sure would make a good gun rest for the 270!!!
- Thu Dec 11 2003 8:58PM
Connie
Good luck with that last exam Kris. Wait until you see the new house! It is beautiful, such a nice soft color! I couldn't believe it when I drove by today. Had a good trip to Grand Rapids, with only a few flurries.
- Thu Dec 11 2003 6:15PM
Kris
Yeah but instead of getting to relax today, I get to stress about exams for a whole nother day. YIPEEEEEE!!!
Going to bed a 9 sounds much more fun.
- Thu Dec 11 2003 11:46AM

Sorry to hear that Nick, hope you don't have too much pain. Just had a long talk with Jack Battin, he thought alot of Dick, bought a pellet gun just like his. He also admired his Uncle Nort. Jack was an expert with the bow.

Just got back from Houghton/Hancock, we have little snow here, but not as much as I saw on my drive to and from the north country. (Imagine that, there is something north of here LOL). Last exam is tuesday at 10, and I check out of my room for the semester at 1, then its time for that fun fun car ride again. Oh how I can't wait for this week to be over :)
- Sun Dec 7 2003 3:57PM
Darrell
Not too sore yet this morning. This afternoon I will be. Have to do the x-mass shopping bit. Mr, are you sure you don't need help today too? Sue would understand!

All of the stuff from Gregory is now moved to either the basement of the new house or the garage. Thanks to all the guys for helping - I bet there are a few sore muscles this morning! Also thanks to Grandma Sandy for watching the kids-thank god for Baby Beethoven! Drywall should be finished this week and hopefully the siding soon. Next will be priming. Just how I wanted to spend my Christmas vacation-painting! Actually, I am looking forward to it. See you all soon!
- Sun Dec 7 2003 9:59AM
Connie
Kris, any snow? When do you leave for Christmas?
- Sun Dec 7 2003 6:20AM

Did you get moved in? We went apartment hunting with Aunt Marge yesterday, thanks to Nan we found a nice place in Flushing. Now we will see if she makes the move.
- Sun Dec 7 2003 6:19AM
Connie
Saw Bob & Mary Orr today, their son-in-law Jon got a doe on opening morning, with his truck at the corner of Beers and Baldwin. Tried to call Dan, and others to take the deer. He didn't know how to gut it, so he gave it to his neighbor. End of story.
- Fri Dec 5 2003 8:37PM

We are moving our stuff from Gregory to Swartz Creek this weekend. Good thing we have a basement for storage! We close on the Gregory house on Monday. Thanks to everyone who will be helping. I hope this is our last move for awhile! At least until we move into the new house anyway :o).

- Wed Dec 3 2003 9:07PM

Jeremy heads out tomorrow for Germany. I follow next Thursday. Wish us luck. The kids will be in good hands with their Grandmas! Gwen decorated our tree, wrote a note to Santa to remind him of the Barbie Hotwheels Jeep she wants, and says that Santa will be here ANY MINUTE! Ho ho ho.

Connie
Thanks for the update. I just finished reviewing and updating the family history book for the CD. Copies will be available soon. I added a picture of Kris's graduation, Sam's recital, Nick's 1st decade, Ash & Drew at the Picnic, new babies Josh and Drew at Gwen's 3rd birthday party, and the new house before the septic tank! I'm done!
- Tue Dec 2 2003 7:59AM
MR
No kidding. I've snaked the drain twice since we've moved in. Ya pretty exciting to take a picture of the top of the tank sitting in the ground. You might want to get some file footage of the insulation. Don from back by the pond is putting it in. I'm sure he'd love to have his picture taken. I guess they are hanging drywall and siding sometime this week.
- Mon Dec 1 2003 2:20PM
Darrell
They had better put it in right. I refuse to clean any crap from that place again!
- Mon Dec 1 2003 1:07PM
Connie
Dan said the septic tank was going in and I had better take a picture. Anything more exciting than that going on?
- Mon Dec 1 2003 11:49AM
Darrell
Can't waite for Jan 1. This damn deer hunting will be over!
- Mon Dec 1 2003 8:53AM
MR
Good thing it wasn't a buck Nort. If it was, you wouldn't need those fake bullet hole stickers on your truck. Don't know how to track a bobcat Connie. Apparently I can't track a deer either. Couldn't find a buck I hit Thursday in Owendale or the doe Danny hit Saturday in SC. Both deer took us through the thickest brush possible in both locations. Still removing multifloral rose thorns.
- Mon Dec 1 2003 7:47AM
Darrell
No deer this weekend. Almost got one or we almost got it Saturday. Andy and I were driving back roads in Luzern (by where Nan and I camped) and had a row of shooters in a drive. One guy and his 5 year old kid were watching us go by in the truck and a big doe ran out about 9 yards away. Guns were pointing and heads were a ducking!!! He wated past us and missed her 3 times. Didn't stop to say I was sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Sun Nov 30 2003 9:38PM
Connie
About 1 inch of snow fell last night, enough to track a bobcat. Well, it looks like a big cat track to us, will have you trackers check out the photo. Hope Kris and everybody had a safe trip home/school. Think Christmas!!!
- Sun Nov 30 2003 3:12PM
Connie
Saw a bald eagle yesterday, circling along the lakeshore, John saw him swoop down and catch a fish. This morning there was a flock of loons out front, real pretty. Still no snow here.
- Sat Nov 29 2003 11:49AM
Darrell
Heading up to Parks'Place around noon. Hope the snow is a good tracking one.

It was too dark to count points but there was a good buck back to the woods tonight. He was less than a 100 yards. Standing on the hill at the pond watching him a button buck walked up to less then 10 yards of me tonight. Damn 4 point buck law anyways.
- Tue Nov 25 2003 8:04PM
Connie
Good Morning! Looks like 12 for Thanksgiving this year! If anyone else wants to come, we will have lots of food, 21# turkey, cranberries, pumpkin and chocolate pies, homemade rolls, and orange jello salad! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Just wanted everyone to know we received a letter yesterday from the church regarding this Sunday, November 2. It's All Saints Sunday and our church will be honoring Mom during both 8:30 & 11:00 services. They light a candle on the altar and ring a chime. The letter was addressed to the Family of Lena Parks. We will likely be at both services since Dan has also ask they remember Tom Jennings and Henry & Linda and family will be attending. So if you feel like you would like to attend, let us know. Would love to see ya!!

I am going to be a ballerina. Mom is letting me put my own costume together and I have some great ideas. I have been practicing saying "Trick or Treat" in a REALLY loud voice. But all of those parts about "give me something good to eat...if you don't....pull down underwear" or something like that is really hard to remember. Joshy is going to be a tiger if he holds still for mom to put a nose and whiskers on! We are going Trick or Treating on our street. It will be the first time I get to go to more than two houses! I can't WAIT! Happy Halloween everyone.

The combine was necessary to remove the $.50 worth of beans that would've been wrecked by the excavators. Happy the report that no soy beans were harmed in the preperation of the site. Not happy with guy "adjusting" something on his tractor with about 100 "taps" from a crescent wrench at midnight.

Wheat ground is plowed, should be worked over today and final planting saturday. I know you all are as excited about it as I am!!! Since when does a combine have anything to do with the construction site? Good luck with the digging. I will have to bring the detector over and snoop around the dirt piles. Maybe I will find the money Connie thinks was burried under the old crib!

MR
Fred Bear used to say, "He who doesn't shoot will eat hot dogs all winter." All the beans are off tonight. Danny's out plowing right now. The excavation for the house started tonight too. At one point there was a combine w/30' bean header, a semi-truck, a Ford 4610, a Bobcat, a back hoe, and 2 pickups all in the yard at one time. Quite the construction site!

I could have shot a big doe at 15 yards but dad wouldn't let me. The deer was over 5 feet tall on all 4 leggs. It was in front of me for 15 min. I had it dead to rights. I am not very happy with him.

Hope you all have fun in the north. Ashley had the privledge of showing Drew her school last night. He was the best cheerleader there!!! Just didn't care for the band in the parking lot. That's O.K., the football players never like the band!! Tonight is homecoming, lucky for me I get to work in the concession stand, since the team is not to exciting. Ms. Ashley has her big dance saturday. You need to find out Kristen's excitement!! TONIGHT is her big night, can't tell. Must come from her. Keep Frankie warm...

Drew had his six month dr. appt. this week. He is low on weight (15lbs, 11oz), but high on height (75% percentile). The Dr. said that is normal and he will probably put on a lot of weight soon! We had another first this week -- our first taste of chicken (even though it was ground up), although I don't think he will be ready for venison anytime soon. No hole dug for the house yet, looks like next week if the weather cooperates! See you all soon!

Clean out the freezer! Dan and I both drew doe permits for Mason County(up North). Pretty lucky since there were only 1,000 available for public land. Your permit should be in the mail Dan.

Her brother Matt will be at our house until Sat. when we drive his new truck to his house. Maybe he will stay until Sunday, I don't know. I am not going to tell her about anything. I always get the time or date messed up.

A dog was bitten by a rattlesnake last week out at the state park in Holly. We were there that same night, and saw people looking though the grass at the side of the road, but didn't know what they were looking for. Later heard an Aquita was bitten on the nose. We were there again last night, BJ and BB had no such encounters. Thank goodness! That would have been something to take a picture of...

Frank said well I don't think so, unless you'd like one. I guess I could use one if it's natural wood. We are going to have natural wood frames for our maps, as soon as Nan and crew get them finished. How about Saturday, Sept 27 to take in the dock?
- Mon Sep 1 2003 8:57AM
MR
We're all back from Kenton. Pretty good trip. Lots of rain and mud. If it weren't for 4 wheel drive we'd still be stuck in the mud down there. Anybody wanna buy a frog caller? They're made from natural wood.

Dan, To get to Parks' Place from East Jordan go south on 66 to 1 mile south of Kalkaska. Make the jog east on 72 than south on 66 (only 1 mile). Go about 8 miles take or leave a couple to Sharon Road. Turn east and go about 5 miles. You will pass a canoe launch just befor North Sharon Road. Keep going for About 100 yards, you will pass a road on your left. Another 200 yards around the curve you will see South Sharon Road. Turn north a tenth of a mile to Military Road. Turn east on Military Road and go three-quarters of a mile. If you hit the curve you went just past the gate. It's on the north side one house east of the Fly Shop driveway and befor the green cabin on the curb. Nan can tell ya where the key is or call me.517-625-4800. I hear ya on the gas. I heard on the radio that there was a 4 hour backup to a little place called brighton to get gas. Iga in Perry was backed up with people from Wixem Lake and Warren trying to get food. I filled the tractor, truck, car, lawnmowers and quads with gas. Won't have to worry for a week at least! Wish I would have forgot the lawnmower!!

Anybody looked at Mars and the Moon lately? I guess last night was the closest it will be to the Earth until 2400. Great view from the oak tree. I don't remember ever seeing the moon quite that red. Really neat. I guess if you have a telescope you can see the Southern Ice Cap on Mars. I wouldn't know North from South on that planet I'm afraid.

Where is the cute picture of Gwen in the wagon? We just got back from our trip to the UP. It was beautiful and we had lots of fun. I hope all the birthday and anniversary people had a special day. The cucumbers are trying to climb in our back door. Alissa's Dad brought us some yummy sweet corn. Mick and Alissa, my cell phone say there is no service so if you need to call try Lew or the home number. I bet Kris is getting ready to pack. Hope everyone has a great weekend. PS we found out that during the week traveling is full of gray haired Senior Specials!

Stayed home sick today. At 1:00 I had a fox trying to get a little pheasent behind the barn. He wont be eating any more anythings. He had mange really bad. His head was full size but his body wasn't much bigger than a cat. His hair was like a big scab all over. Next is the hawk that keeps landing in the pine trees beside the house.

Should be there. What to bring? The hell with the new residents, He turned me in to the Kalkaska Water department. I was even going to offer to install his telephones someday! We have running COLD water inside Parks'Place. Hit it at about 10 feet. Ran an extra pipe deeper to be safe. It only took Nick and I 1 hour and 10 minutes to carry everything in, hammer in the pipe, pump out 50 gallons of water and clean every thing up. Also found a new quad trail a couple miles East of Kalkaska. Took us 3 hours to do the 25 mile loop.

How about 5:00 supper on Saturday at the farm? Will that work for everybody? Better check with the new residents!

Nice shooting boys! Bearded hen turkeys are pretty rare. They're legal birds though. Seems like there is a picture of one that someone shot every year or two.

Darrell & Nick
Got our trophies at the bow tourament. We took second place! Only missed first by 1 point. Goes to show each shot can make a difference. Starting a new tourament on Wednesday. I think this one will be a little harder. But the way Nick is shooting, anything is possible. I have him shooting every 2 hours at 15, 25 and 35 yards every day. He is really getting good. Let the 24 pheasents go yesterday. You see them in every yard around here. Had a grown hen come up to see the little ones chirping. Also had a close encounter with a turkey hen. She has about 13 little ones. She has a 8 inch beard. Is that normal MR?

This is mainly for Nan, but the rest of you might get a kick out of it as well. This weekend at the campground there were these people who had to Old English Sheep dogs, one boy and one girl. The girl had two boys in her hair. The old couple would walk the dogs, the guy would walk the boy dog who had a blue leash, and the woman would walk the girl dog with a pink leash. It was really cute!!!!!!!!!!

Kris, we left the paper about the car on the dinning room table. A neat craft idea is to use a clear white glass drop (floral departmen & dollar store). Glue a small sticker or stamp on the bottom and it's an automatic magnfing lens. I found the large size at the dollar store next to TJ Maxx. Small photos are great. PS we never got an invitation to the party?

Happy Birthday Bailey! We enjoyed the walk last night, and the watermelon! Hope you all have fun at Six Flags this week. Bailey and Bucky will have a good time while you are gone. We have been swimming in the new pond a few times. It's only about 4 feet deep. Lots of mud!I did see a rooster back there tonight. First one I have seen in a couple years. I wonder if they hear the little ones in the barn chirping. He was in the cornfield behind the barn. Saw a hen turkey back there last week too. Keep seeing the fox most nights. He stays alive as long as he stays out of the barn!

1 for 2 on woodchucks this weekend. Missed a long shot from the gas tanks to the creek bank with the big rifle. Got one from the rock pile with the .22. Took a dip in the pond to cool off. Its about 7' deep straight out from the dock. I wouldn't try a dive. Its about a 6' free fall from the top of the dock just to hit the water. Tough angle. Good way to stick you head in the muddy bottom at high speed. Lots of baby frogs to swim with though.

Darrell, I asked Dan last night, if you want those tires, please take them. Said you should have taken them that night. His new toy should be ready to run tonight! Yahoo, just what he needs, another tractor! Dorothy made it through the surgery and doing o.k. Have a sunny weekend.
- Fri Jun 27 2003 7:01AM
Darrell
Dan If you are going to get rid of the tires please let me know. I can use them. I took the buggy for a ride tonight. Few little fixes to be done. Went swimming in the pond (mudhole)last night. About 4 feet deep. 6 feet if you count the mud on the bottom!

Wehad a beautiful rain. The garden really needed a drink. How long do you think Gaylen will be in the hospital?

Hi all, Must be nice MR, I have lived w/o air conditioning for 25 years, oops 46 years!!! Connie, Thanks for watering and next trip down hill rd, will stop. Darrell, you know Dan doesn't do computers, so I will pass along the info. That stuff on the trailer is his attempt to clean out the barn after 100 years. Glad finally got a generation that will get rid of that stuff, good thing it is not for Connie to decide!! Keep us posted on Gayland. Dorothy Bloss had triple bi-pass yesterday, haven't heard how it went. She was high risk, but there was no option. Will keep you posted. Enjoy the wonderful summer weather!!!
- Thu Jun 26 2003 8:23AM
Connie
Hi Guys, Gayland is at Bay Med, will vist this afternoon. Glad he has good neighbors to take care of his cat. Rose the plant has bright orange flowers, real pretty, will take a picture next time I water them. Have a good day!
- Thu Jun 26 2003 7:15AM
Darrell
Dan, what are you going to do with the tractor tires on the trailer in front of the barn? They will fit the D-17 if you can't use them. Stopped and saw your new toy. Looks like it was just rebuilt. If all works out I will have the buggy ready this weekend.
- Wed Jun 25 2003 10:10PM

I don't know how we managed to live here for so long without A/C. What a stroke of luck that the furnace crashed and burned while I was up north trout fishing and made us add A/C with the new furnace. If anyone wants to buy our house its on www.realator.com. They're comming out to take pictures next week so you can do a "virtual tour" of the house online. Hopefully some "Actual people" will look at it.
- Wed Jun 25 2003 8:31PM
Connie
We have air, and we will be home. If that helps anyone!
- Wed Jun 25 2003 9:42AM
Sandy
Why don't you keep both homes going and keep the air conditioner option? The weekend could be cool. Glad to hear you have a date with the builder. I don't have your cellphone number. Off to antoher meeting today.
- Wed Jun 25 2003 6:14AM
Connie
Sounds good Mick. Going to BC again tonight to take Gayland a chicken dinner. His foot was injured, probably when he fell and pulled a hamstring. Bucky gets to stay home.
- Tue Jun 24 2003 2:19PM

New job is ok. Not exactly rocket science but the hours are good and so is the pay. I'll be turning up money machines for about 180 drug stores. We're setting up all of the equipment to ship out and then we'll help the techs get them running when they fire 'em up.
- Mon Jun 23 2003 9:06PM
Darrell
Dan I got the buggy running last week. Had to pick up a chain masterlink the other day. Haven't had it to the woods yet. Should be going by this weekend. It's rewired and the key starts it fine. Have to push the kill switch/plug wire to shut it off. Can't seem to find the kill/coil ground wire without opening up the motor housing. Battery is charged and works good. Have to run it and see if the belt will be ok or need to get the correct one. Sorry it's taking me soo long. It seems to be harder to work on someones elses stuff when I can't seem to get going on my own!
- Mon Jun 23 2003 6:42PM
Alissa
Today was also Drew's first day with cousins Gwen and Josh. So far I haven't received any emergency calls so everyone must be fine. Brandy is a pro so there will be no problems. Haven't heard from Mick yet, it only took him about 1 hour, 15 minutes to get to work so that is positive (he left 2 hours early just in case traffic was backed up). The house is on the market now and we spent the whole weekend working on it. Thanks to Grandma Sandy for coming down on Wed. and Thurs. to help! See everyone soon!
- Mon Jun 23 2003 12:46PM
Connie
Thanks for letting us know Rose. Dan was going to give a family history book to Eveline, maybe she gave us the cookbook in return. Going to BC, Gayland is having some trouble getting around, going shopping for him, and water the flowers up there. How was Mick's first day on the job?
- Mon Jun 23 2003 10:46AM

Thought you guys might want to know, Dorothy Bloss's grandson was killed in an auto accident last week. (Ilona's son) Dorothy was at Ilona's when they found out, she suffered two heart attackes and is in a hospital in Grand Rapids. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything. On a happier note, Connie I have a receipe book at my house from the O'Brien family for you. Not sure where it came from! So next time your in the neighborhood, stop by or when we come look at the pictures I'll bring it. While your all up north having fun, Dan almost has his latest tractor up and running. Which reminds me, Darrell, any progress on that go cart of ours? Enough for now!! Enjoy the great weather.

Hello to everyone from Aunt Carole. She was here with one of her daughters-in-law for a few days. They are doing well, some of the boys work for Michael, on a construction crew. Kathy is in CO, Larry is in CA, and Terry is here in Flint, a nurse at Genesys. We had a really good visit!

Congrats to Mickey on getting a job today! He starts on Monday in Troy on a short-term contract, but with the possibility of extending it. Looking to put the house on the market ASAP! This weekend will be busy with lots of last minute improvements. Josh and Gwen, look out! Drew is on his way over! Hurray!

Lots of wildlife at the farm too! Those woodchucks are still eating Dan's soybeans, and a sweet little skunk meandered across the bean field by the walnut tree, right past BJ's nose and down to the creek. Saw deer over on Bill's. Almost as much activity as on Tahquamenon!
- Tue Jun 17 2003 8:09AM
Darrell
Lost another pheasent chick today. That's 5. Still have 27 live ones. Saw a 4 point last night. He circled the pond and the fort a couple times. Had a fox playing in the lane at the same time. Should have skot him if I want to keep any birds. But until I loose one to him he's safe until winter.Got a couple good sledding hills come the first snow. You will have to bring all the little kids over. Just let me know befor you come so I can get out of town!

We have quite a flower garden out at the cemetery now. Sure looks pretty. If you want a picture, I will send you one.
- Mon Jun 16 2003 11:12AM

Attention all woodchuckers... Two big 'chucks on the fenceline by Grandma's house. Didn't get a shot at 'em. All I had was the big rifle and didn't want to shoot from the yard(making the whole family deaf) towards that mansion on Don's. Maybe Darrell and Nick came get 'em with those super-duper-space-aged-wheelie bows.

Hi Guys, Darry you should ask Lewie about tennis, he likes watching that little ball go back and forth over the net about as much as you enjoy golf. You could shoot that tennis ball out of the stadium too. Wimbledon in 2 weeks!

Gosh Darrell, just hide how you really feel! Just kidding. Got back from Wash. DC last night, glad to see Drew and his dad and to be back on the ground. We have a realtor coming on Saturday to give us some information on what to fix with the house before we put it on the market. This is hoping that one of the jobs Mick is trying for will work out. Depending on what she says we may need some voluntary painters or landscapers!! or even babysitters!! See you all soon.

Had to sit all afternoon at a TDS golf outing. God I hate that fagget sport. If they would let you shoot those little white balls at about 200 yards with a rifle that would make it a bit more interesting. Found huge morels yesterday in Holly, can you believe it? Oak Tree-a nut that held it's ground. Pretty cute, from an Australian on one of my listserves. Going to MSU in the morning for our big Annual Meeting. Just read about the 9.9% tuition increase. Will honk as I go by.

Glad you are on the job. Can't wait to see that little guy again. Maybe you all can come up fishing. Last night at the State Park in Holly little white winged 'moths' were hatching out and the fish were snatching them up. Better get our licenses.

Rose & Dan
We went to the cemetery this afternoon, looked pretty bare, but after a trip to the flower shop we hung a hanging pot in the middle of the heart. Mom would be happy. Sandy and Lew came down for steaks and morels, and we took a bouquet of flowers from the parks farm for the headstone. Has anybody been swimming or eating salmon?
- Sun May 25 2003 8:14PM
Connie
Hi there! The dock is in, the morel count is 0. Hope you like the pictures, we had a good time in spite of the weather. We had to remove a robin's nest from the boat trailer hitch, under the tarp. Two eggs were in it, then after we moved it to a spruce tree, we found two more eggs in the leaves under the trailer. Hope you all can come up!
- Sun May 25 2003 4:18AM

How's the dock install crew doing? I sure am missing the sore back and wet butt that comes along with that job. Whats the morel count so far?

Got the barn floor done today. Looks really good. 3 Days befor I can leave tire tracks on it to break it in! The pond keeps getting bigger. I'am done paying but he keeps digging.I now have a built up lane going to the creek. Lots of piles of dirt left for anyone needing black dirt, sand or clay. Dan did you need more dirt?
- Tue May 20 2003 7:34PM

Have fun this weekend you guys! This will be our first Memorial Day in awhile where we haven't gone to North Carolina to lay on the beach and have fun with five other couples. Four out of the five couples now have little rugrats so we will be having a "family gathering" with them this weekend closer to home. Maybe we will make it up to use the dock sometime this summer. See you all soon!

Oops, Fall of 1991. This is the 12th spring we have been taking an early swim. See you soon, don't work too hard Darry. Saw Dan and Kris last night, found a few morels by Dan's treehouse. The corn is up, beans just got planted. That is my early morning crop report. Have a good day!

Laying cement in the barn in the morning. Pretty much done with the pond. Don't know how big it is. I know it was 10 feet deep befor the banks washed in some. It's probily 100 by 100. 4 or 5 feet deep already. Ready and packed for Friday with the water gear. I think my waders still work keeping me dry. How long you been up there Frank? Just wondering how old my waders were. Mowed front, back, track and lane today. Also mowed another 7 acers at his houses. Going to bed!
- Mon May 19 2003 9:09PM

Good job Nick. I used to thump your dad pretty regularly when I shot one of those wheel bows. Well, once in awhile when my bow didn't explode anyway! We should shoot Whitetail Acres again sometime. Hopefully on a day when there won't be anyone there to laugh at me while I'm looking for arrows in the brush behind the targets.

Drew's 2 month check up was yesterday and he weighs 11 lbs, 10 oz and is 23 inches long. The Dr. says everything looks great! He wasn't too happy with us though because he had to get four shots, two in each leg. He was tough and didn't cry for long.

Got one big hole in the ground back across the creek. My friends dad started digging me a pond. Hope I don't get busted for not having a permit. Don't know how big it will be until we're tired of digging. I don't think it will be as big as dads. It's now about 30 feet by 30 feet and 10 feet deep. Will post again tomorrow night.

Really, we found false-morels back there the other day but no real ones. I know Dan knows his morels, Nan too. They still hold the upnorth record for the biggest and most ever found in one site. None there since though.
- Wed May 14 2003 2:23PM
MR
Thats great to hear Kris! Your dad was telling us just this weekend that he'd never seen a morel back to the woods. Funny what happens when you spend the time to try and look hard for them.
- Wed May 14 2003 11:43AM
kris
Since it was too wet for dad to be in the feild yesterday, me and dad went morel hunting in the woods. We looked for about an hour or so and only came up with 19! We left some baby ones so that we can have fun on another day.

Gayland is doing OK. No more tests. Thank goodness! Received a message from Aunt Mary's daughter Lisa. Her daugher Shannon graduates in June. She is anxious to go to college in the fall. Legal-aid two years, then if she likes it, a four year law degree. She's a smart kid.

I am sure me and Drew will have a wonderful time tomorrow. Of course mr is asking a lot trying to get a college kid out of bed at 5 in the morning. He's lucky its for the baby, or he would have heard all about that lol;)

I am heading for Bay City Saturday. Is Gayland still in Bay Med? I tried calling you Friday night. Alissa, Mick, and Drew are here for weekend. Hoping that the upper made it safely home. We mowed the yard last weekend but this rain should make it grow like gang busters.

I really enjoyed going to Ash's class this morning for the interview. When I was in the 10th grade, we were excited about being in the new high school. Now they are proposing a new high school at Hill and Morrish Roads. It has been over 40 years... Hi Darry, I remember that interview at MSU. You guys have a good time up north, should be nice weather. Gayland is still having tests, no results yet.
- Fri May 2 2003 8:09PM
MR
Everyone can come down to see Drew this summer in air conditioned comfort. Just had AC put in along with a new furnace to replace the one that crapped out last weekend.

Found 2 eggs today in the barn. The first wasn't my style. It had finger nail poilish in it. The second one had a pack of Big Red gum. Sam clained um both! I remember a long time ago Connie took me to an interview and they had a video camera. I think back then it was 8 mm.or maybe it was like 8 track!!! Good luck to Gayland.

We're back from the Parks' Place. Great weekend of camping, fishing, and metal detecting(in that order!). Quite a few sightings(Not the Escanaba kind!). Got some pictures of a Ruffed Grouse/Partridge/Pat in the driveway. Got a few great shots of a river otter in the Manistee, the first one I've ever seen. Did get one fish picture but you'll have to look real close. I caught one and my buddy Nick caught another. Pretty slow there. Darrell's buddy Shaun hit the gold mine with his dried mushrooms for wood burning. Nice weather too.

Hi everyone. We will bring the drinks since that is something easy that I can just buy at the store. We will be going on our first overnight outing that weekend to the Thumb and having Easter with my family on Saturday. Drew is doing good...he really enjoyed all of his company yesterday. You think all he does is sleep, but you weren't there for the screaming/fussy time between 7-8pm. Luckily, he doesn't care that we sing out of tune and just likes to be rocked at that point. We can't wait to see everyone on the 20th...sorry Kris won't be able to come!

This weekend was awesome. NMU ended up in 3rd place with ferris 2nd and U of M in 1st (trust me ferris deserved to win). but you know how it goes, when the whole town is supporting your team you tend to play a lot harder. We didn't make it to the NCAA, but Ohio State (Who we beat by the way) did, thats dumb but ya know. Have a great week everybody!!

Kris called at 11:00 last night and asked I share this with all you MSU fans. NMU beat MSU, 7-51!! YAHOO!!! NMU plays Ferris at 4:00 today. Of course those poor loser MSU fans thought Kris needed a beer bath. That was a new experience for her. She won't be back to Marquette until Sunday, expect you will hear more about this from her. Until then!!

Guess Kooter is smarter than his owners, bet they don't hide when he cries!!! Love the pictures, as Kris said, the poor kid has that Parks hair and she can relate!! Can't wait to get my hands on him, must make a trip south SOON!! Promise I won't hide when he cries.
- Wed Mar 19 2003 8:05AM

Drew's doing fine. I'm a little worried that he seems to sleep through important things like Red Wings games though. Maybe he's just waiting for the playoffs. We finally broke down and let Kooter back in the house. He could care less about the kid. Gave him one good sniff and that was it. He hides in the back corner of the house whenever Drew starts crying.

Good morning! We went skiing at M-32, it was sunny and nice. Cousin Mike sends a hello to us. His new grandson's name is Cade, his granddaughter is Cecily Jade. Has anyone heard from Kris? Hope you are doing OK. See you guys.

No indications of baby yet, it will probably be a week or more. I think I am driving Mick crazy with my restlessness and anticipation, although I am fine - not very uncomfortable. We go to the Dr. on Thursday if nothing happens before then. We will probably discuss induction at that time so we may have a date after Thursday. Mick thinks the 21st for the 1st day of spring, but I don't know if I can wait that long. We will keep everyone posted as soon as something happens!

Nan and I got back from Parks'Place about noon. It was -15 last night and we ran out of propane. Good thing for the spare tank! Only it's empty now too. MR, you didn't shoot the last deer. Had 8 standing infront of the door as we walked in.An hour and a half to shovel 4 feet of packed snow in front of the gate to get the truck off the road. About two feet of snow eveywhere else. No chipmunk activity.

Alissa
Just to add to Mick's comment. I am feeling well, a little tired and uncomfortable, but still able to sleep fine. The baby hasn't dropped yet, but has been in position (with the head down) for the past month or so. I was dilated to 1 at the last dr's appt, but they didn't check me today so we will have to wait until next week to find out if I am further along. Hopefully, the baby will wait at least a couple of weeks so that I can get everything tied up here at work and it would also allow me to be covered by vacation and sick hours for most of the time I am off. We'll keep you posted. Hope everyone is doing well.
- Thu Feb 20 2003 12:25PM

Nothing new from the expectant parents. Alissa is still going to work everyday, and the doctor's once a week.
Thanks to everyone for all of the shower gifts. I think I have about half of the toys and stuff put together now. :)

You are welcome. Mom had the test done at McLaren today and was admitted. She won't have a phone until she is transferred to a regular room. Hi Guys, I fell through the ice into the muck yesterday. Bucky rushed over to lick my face, saw that I was OK and took off on another track. We think they are fox tracks, maybe coyotes. Need a real tracker to know for sure. Hope BB gets a ride soon...
- Sat Feb 8 2003 12:19PM

So how's the new Bailey-Mobile? Oh, I forgot you're not allowed to ride in it. Must be a bitch to have to run alongside at 50 mph. Don't worry, you know how new owners are. They get a new toy and forget all about the others that are important. I guess that in about 3 weeks the dirt will so thick on the "new" buggy that she will have forgotton that it's still new underneath all that grime and let you ride!

You'll be banned from reading the guestbook if you work for the DNR. Too much sensitive info here that could send me and Nort to the slammer:)

Check out the link. I don't know how good of a deal this is if you don't plan on going to the bar in Boyne Falls and then going to the bar in Mackinaw City. Alissa should be ready to go by then and haul that baby around this time. She still needs to make up the 26 miles of the trip she bailed out on last year.

3-4" of fresh powder down here. Got the skis out and made a few laps around the yard last night. This morning I skied a great trail just down the road that I hadn't tried before. It was a lot quicker on the way out than the way in. Something about breaking the trail I guess!

We are home safe and sound from sunny Florida. The weather was great and we spent lots of time at the ocean and the pool. Lura was happy to have company. I hope I am half as active as she is at 84. Sounds like the family had a great Christmas. It was tough to come home and teach Thursday and Friday!
