- Sun Dec 31 2006 7:46AM
Connie
Good Morning! Did you make any New Year's Resolutions? Mine are to eat well and exercise, and take lots of pictures! We will need them for Sam's graduation in 2007! Happy New Year's Eve: My best NY's Eves were babysitting and earning $5.00, overpayment based on the going rate of $.50 per hour.)
- Sun Dec 31 2006 7:43AM
Happy Holidays!
(Cecily, Robin, Carole, James, Lisa, Helen and others) We are all here in Southern Missouri with Henry. All the kids have not been in the same place for 20 years or so! We wish you all the best at this festive time of the year! Love, Jim & Lisa Parks (Mailed Dec 26 to Connie & Family)

Say a prayer for Bob...and Mary. Bob is real bad and wants to just go in peace...guess that is what we all would want some day. Gayland has an appointment with the cardiac specialist on Jan 3, Sandy gave him her phone number and we gave him a few more in csse of emergency, hope you don't get a call. I will send sympathy cards from all of us to Aunt Carole, Robin, James & Cecily. Now to end on a happier note: GO BLUE!

Thanks Nan and everybody for the great time last night! I will post Christmas Eve pictures on Webshots when we get home. I am sending Lew and Dan a CD, cause I can't wait for them to see the kids... Robin & Helen, James & Lisa, and Cecily were having breakfast together this morning, they said Merry Christmas to all! Uncle Hank is status quo...
- Mon Dec 25 2006 12:02PM

Received a call from Robin and Helen. Helen said Uncle Hank is still with us, and in no pain. They don't expect him to live much longer...there will be no funeral service...hello to everyone from Robin and Helen. James and Cecily are expected at the end of the week. So glad we had the party last summer!

Connie
No news from Missouri...Happy Birthday to Aunt Mary!
- Mon Dec 18 2006 11:06AM
Sandy
Sorry to hear about your Grandmother. No one mentioned her in church. I am glad she is home and recovering. Will you be coming up Christmas day? Glad to her the crew of the program is expected to require. Josh felt bad that he was not going to get to fly as an angel.
- Mon Dec 18 2006 6:46AM
Alissa
Wow! Josh looks just like Jeremy in that picture. Too cute! One more week until the Christmas bonanza - four gatherings with presents in just three days. Drew will be in heaven and we will need to build an addition! Our thoughts are with U. Hank. My grandmother was just in the hospital this past week with two large blood clots in her lungs. She was in ICU for awhile and even had a helicopter ride to Saginaw! She is home now and is tired, but doing well. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week!

Our church program was tonight as well. Drew was a shepard. All the patrons that he poked with his shepard's stick are expected to make full recoveries!

My prayers are with Hank, please keep us posted. I have been wrapping gifts and Hershey has been exploring! Lew is out trying to get the last deer. Our church program is tonight, must be Christmas.

Ahhhh! My favorite Christmas was when Aunt Nancy insisted that she had wrapped hotdogs up as one of my Christmas gifts...you know, when I was sneaking under the tree checking out names on the presents. Than, what do you know? I got a kitchen set for Christmas and there was a package of hotdogs...plastic of course!
- Fri Dec 15 2006 4:38PM
Connie
Good Morning! Think of the best Christmas present you ever received...one year I received 5 books...Today we are lucky to have Barnes & Noble in The Villages, well worth the 6 1/2 mile bikeride over there...Any news??

Sounds like Frank needs a new doubles partner! Congrads. Had fun camping in Walaha this weekend. The snow is past knee high. Lots of deer everywhere but no bucks. I think they might logg it this winter. All the trees are marked and the trails are somewhat plowed out.

Good Morning, finally got to 50 degrees. Bought some citrus for Robin & Helen, and a 'musical turkey' for Uncle Hank. Dan liked his, and Lewie liked his Saxiphone Santa, so why not, can't be too serious. After all this is the Uncle who had his 'Uncle Hank's Headquarters' sign posted on the porta john...Hope he gets good news from the cardiac specialist today!

Dad went a week up north, and waited until he got home to get a deer. At first he told us it was a doe, but found out after he shot it that it was a 5 point, would've been a 7 or 8 point without a broken off horn. Here's the best part, he was talking to mom on the phone when he saw it. She was filling him in on the halftime score of the OSU UofM game.

Bo Schembechler was quite a guy, he will be missed by all. Michigan vs. Ohio State game tomorrow will be a real tribute to him... GO BLUE!

I saw 2 bucks and 4 does. Nick didn't see any. One of the bucks came in behind him and walked along the creek. I could see the deer from across the field. But Nick's walkie talkie broke and I couldn't tell him to turn around to see it. The other buck was an 8 point. He was just across the rail road tracks and not leagle to shoot at.

Looking out our new windows, minus curtains, you can see forever. We have been watching two duck hunters with 4 activated decoys and three dogs. Theyhave had two chances to shoot. Sure glad I am sitting with a hot cup of coffee in a heated room! Lew has his gear around for the BIG event. I hope they can keep warmer than the horizontal hunters across the street. Looking forward to Gwen's big #6 day this week! Glad to hear Hank is doing well. We tend to take good health for granted.

Nope. It failed by a wide margin. Now Rose will be able to hear the birdies coo in peace with no threat from the evil hunters who would only shoot them as targets and no doubt leave them lay to rot like the do other small birds like quail and woodcock. No way they could be ever eaten since they are so small and precious. Second only to the eagle for beauty I think I heard from someone at HSUS. Oh what a great day for the bird of peace!

Ya I thought that dove thing was more of a guidline anyway. I'm glad it failed. I'll save the $2 I would've spent on the dove stamp. Might have to dump a few and toss them next to any "vote no on 3" signs still up. Flying rats anyway.

Did you vote? We did before we left, absentee ballot in SouthArm Township. Raining here, rode my bike home in the rain...got a new Schwinn bike at Target, good price... Kris told us the funniest story I've heard in a long time last night. She was buying bags for corn at the elevator and the guy(who had no idea who Kris was) asked here what they were for. She informed him that her delusion father has decided that hand picking ear corn would be a good part-time business. The guy says, "What's wrong with that? Old Dick Parks lived to be a ripe old age picking corn by hand!" Now that's funny stuff right thar! I don't care who ya 're.

Howdy! Robin reports that Uncle Hank is doing well. He came home the day after surgery, is eating and sleeping and watching TV. He is refusing pain pills-a John Wayne type... Aunt Carole comes tomorrow night, she is the best person to assess his progress. If her visit goes well, we might visit him soon. Take care of yourselves!

Good news from the DAR Patriot Index Lookup: Our ancestor Christopher Park, Sr. born in CT 1735 was in the American Revolutionary War, Mass, rank Cpl. Spouse (1) Sarah Mansfield. Now we need to find the Norton Park and HCP documentation...a gravestone or cemetery record in Oakland County...appropriate for Halloween night....any takers?

Here are a couple of pictures from our Trick or Treating and pumpkin carving. I guess we didn't get a lot of pictures...it was a little crazy since the kids have been on a sugar high since about 10:00 this morning! They don't sit still long for pictures! Happy Halloween til next year!

MR
Thanks. Really all we need to know is when the two houses across the street will have their lights on since those are the only two we ever make it to anyway. Should I bring some deer ribs to hand out to trick-or-treaters? The package I sent to Nort came back return-to-sender.:)

Good Morning, got the picture...pretty high tech! So let's hear about Halloween! This was always our favorite night, go through the ragbag and pull out some of dad's old stuff to make a costume...then walk a few miles for treats... then get home & divide the spoils (with dad...)and pretend not to get sick...and the best Halloween was when it didn't rain!

Here is the picture from my phone of the scene. The red arrow in the dirt is my practice arrow from an hour before the doe showed up. The first shot is only sticking in a little. The coupe de grace went right through from top to bottom as she was laying down. Not the best quality of picture.

MR
That shed has had more flooring options than my house.:) Saw 6 or 8 does, a 4pt and an 8pt all at just about the same time. They were all about 100 yards directly behind me. Something spooked them, may have just been the wind making them spooky. Anyway, two does ran in front of my stand. The bigger one walked right into my shooting lane at about 12 yards. She was moving pretty quick so I gave a little bleat sound(about like something Zane would say) to stop here. I picked the "hair over the heart" but I must have pulled the shot high because when the arrow hit home she let out a bawl and dropped. I spined her! That was kind of nice because there was no blood trailing involved. I put another one through her just to be sure but it wasn't needed. Kind of funny scene. I shot a practice arrow at a leaf a few hours earlier and the doe dropped about 3' from that arrow. So I've got this dead deer with two arrows sticking in her at different angles and another arrow sticking in the ground. I took a picture of it from my phone and I'll post it if I can figure out how to get it on a PC. Dad and Drew were able to come and help me put it in the truck. Pretty good day. Tenderloins for dinner last night were pretty tasty. Frank, where should I UPS the ribs to?:)

I'm around, back to dial up now, so not as much time wasted on the internet. I just applied today to substitute teach in Swartz Creek. Not the highest paying job, but twice as much as I am making right now, so... lets just hope they call me. I met with the SPRC at church tonight and they are going to support me as a candidate for ministry so thats good news I guess. God a letter from Potter's Park, they decided to go with someone else. Oh well wasn't meant to be.

Almost free!!! At 4:00 the doc came in and decided to open it up. He took a half hour looking around for a big-enough needle to do the job. No antisetic or anything. Just stab and squeeze. Trying not to pass out, I didn't even squaller once. I did mutter a few names at him! Now I get to go hame and Hide and watch. Check up on Friday. 6 Days for a 15 minute finally. Worst than waiting for the fireworks on the 4th of July. Pretty dissapointing but at least I am out of here for now!!!!!!!!They still don't know what it was or anything. Should have stayed at home and kept working it myself.

Cat Scan didn't show enough to do anything about. Starting to get kinda pissy at everyone. I go home tomorrow one way or another. They cut it out. They send me home with pills. Or I sneek out.

12:55pm Well that was quite interisting. I had a doctor and 18 students come in for a looksy. I got to be the star of the show for 15 min. They were impressed with my pictures that I took of it! Still nothing is done.

45 min later I have an IV line back in. It only took the nurse (who defected from the Sovit Union to come here) 3 tries. So far I have had 8 different holes for IV's. Not to mention all the blood work pokes. Getting kinda funny. I make bets with who ever is doing the work as to how many times it will take them! I have several ice creams comming!!! My arm looks like one of mom's pin chushins. 5 days next to these non english speeking families who have guest till 11:30pm and back on at 5:30am doesn't let one get much sleep. Enough bitching for now. But I will be back.

B.S> Get me outa here! Going for another Cat Scan. They still don't know anything. I got it to drain a little last night. One set of doc's want to let me go with oral antibiodics. The other set want me to waite till tomorrow. So, with my good tactful nature, I proceded to tell them all to go to hell. I am leaving if they don't do something today. So as far as I can tell, I have a C S comming then they are going to open it up. Maybe go home today. Maybe not. Shit, they can't even agree if I need the pick line in me. They took it out yesterday. Put it back in this morning. Took it back out. Put it back in. I fineally got a shower by sneeking in and using my shirt as a towl. I got the IV line wet sot they took it back out. Now 3 of them (2 docs and 1 nurse) are babbloning about if it needs to go back in. I said, excuse me but if I am getting a CS don't I need it for the iodine? OH YA that's right. Get me outa here!!!! Will report back if I am still able to.

No difference. They just put a hot wet washcloth on the sore to try to bring it to a head. Lets see, at home I did this. I also sat around and waited to see what happens. But It didn't cost anything. I don't like going to the doctor why?! I finally got some sleep last night. Not because the blipity blip speeking Koreen people left. No, that wasn't nearly as bad as the Arabian loud mouth guy getting calls at 11:30 last nigh, having his TV on loud and have to be told to turn it down a half dozen times. I got ear plugs! The soreness is way down, but give me a handfull of Tyonal 4's and that too can be taken care of at home. Get me the hell out of here. Can't have a shower. Doesn't bother me being in the woods for a week without one. But here it's kinda slimy. Will report back when I find something out or the insurance runs out!

Not sure about us yet for Saturday. I am taking the boys to the Dr. today because Zane has some unusual spots that I hope is not hand, foot, and mouth disease. Harmless, but very contagious. If that is what it is and Drew is out of the danger zone, maybe just Mick and Drew will come. We had three parties scheduled for this weekend so this throws a wrench into things. Have fun if we don't see you!

It would also be helpful to have a head count before I buy the meat!!:) So, we wait for your response. Hope to see all of you saturday. The original message on the get together was on Sept. 18th where we were asked to bring something - with that said I have no idea what we will be bringing. I was thinking of pumpkin pies, but I see Nan and Rose already have dessert covered. Maybe some ham rollups for Kris and I to enjoy! We have three parties this weekend (1 on Friday and 2 on Saturday) so we may just bring something already-made. Will let you know. You know it is school time when we have already had two notices sent home that there is a case of lice in the school. So far, we don't have it! I hope I won't have to shave Drew's head again!

You should have the slots on top of the reciever to clamp the scope on. Probably a cheap Bushnell or something that has scope rings already attached to the scope. Should say "rimfire" or ".22" somewhere on the scope package. If you want a sling, you need sling swivels. Pretty standard item made by Uncle Mike's usually. Should be able to find that stuff at Meijer.

Uncle Hank can use his right hand ok, his speech is only mildly effected. He may need carotid surgery (90% block on one side). He is reading the paper and watching football. His home address is HC#01, Box 301, Fairdealing, MO 63939. Good luck bow hunters!!!

Hi there, got some bad news and some good news. Robin called to say Uncle Hank had a stroke, Aunt Carole and the sheriff found him this morning. The good news is that they think he is going to be ok, he will have a neurology consult tomorrow. Aunt Carole and Robin will keep us posted. I told Aunt Carole I just finished typing the last section of his '22 Years with the Army', he was pleased with the first section he reviewed. In his letter I received yesterday he reminded us that "your dad was the lemon drop kid" and Dan was the soggy biscuit kid". They both carried a pocket full on going to the woods w/a gun. "I resort to these frequent points as they come to mind and do not wish to forget. There will be a day when this will not happen and until I'll trouble you with my details, OK? Love, Uncle Hank

I was thinking about the T-shirt with antlers on a bear and it says "beer?". Scott showed us the pictures of his bear last night. They had some funny ones with he bear hanging and his neice standing next to it with the paws on her shoulders. They said it was a "bear hug" picture.

No bears. I saw one Saturday night. He came in under my stand. Didn't look too big. He turned before he reached the bait pile so I had nothing to judge him by. He turned and went about 10 yards in the brush. I could have shot him easly enough. But I figured he would come in. It started to rain hard and he never came back. Should have shot him when I had the chance.

Heading up this morning. Watch the papers for "Man with knife kills record bear". Or maybe "If only the man had a knife, he might still be alive"! Will have pictures of the Gate!
- Thu Sep 21 2006 5:03AM
Connie
Had a good trip and visit with Ronnie & Geraldine, Gladys, and Aunt Mary. Took a picture of a bear, in the newspaper celebrating the Pictured Rocks 40th anniversary and the Hiawatha National Forest's 75th birthday.
- Wed Sep 20 2006 8:16PM
Sandy
Yikes! I just saw those bear photos. I guess the woods isn't as safe as I thought. Iam standing up straight again and seem to be on the mend. The Oct. date sounds like fun. Thought you should know the beets are being harvested today. Sorry to say Lew has gout. The beans have been flying off the fields. That's the farm update from the boon docks.
- Wed Sep 20 2006 5:35AM
Connie
That's good! Have fun on Friday! We're going to the UP in the morning, will check out the bears on the way to Ishpeming...

No mother and cub shootings. It's not legal anyways.
- Mon Sep 18 2006 12:51PM
Rose & Nancy--too!!
Nan and I were talking this weekend, since Connie & Frank are heading south the second weekend of October they will be in Flushing for the weekend. Thought it might be fun to have a picnic at Nans around 5:00 on saturday October 14. Seems to be a popular day for the Parks family. She and I will provide the chicken, beans and dessert!! Let us know if you can make it and what you would like to bring. I promise it will be much less stressful than the last picnic we had!!:) Hope you are available!! I know it seems like a ways away, but believe me it will be here before we know it. Have a good week.
- Mon Sep 18 2006 7:12AM
Connie
Pictures are sufficient and great viewing! Please don't tell me you are going to shoot a mother bear and her cubs! I can't imagine that you would...wait for an old grizzly guy but take it easy and don't fall out of the treestand!
- Mon Sep 18 2006 5:30AM
Darrell
Yup. 8 yards from the tree my stand is in. Can't waite for Friday. I have almost 40 pictures from the last week. Mark has a sow and 2 cubs hitting one of his baits and a nother good one on his second pile. Every bait we have set is being hit. I would have MR post Mark's pix but he is using a 35mm so I can't send them. If we get a chance I will scan them.
- Sun Sep 17 2006 7:25PM

Nope. They were from an automatic motion sensor trail camera setup pointed at the bait pile.

If you are interested in attending let me know and I will provide details and send the RSVP. We will not be coming down, but would be interested in knowing some of the other descendants of Robert Parke, of the Wintrop Fleet (Puritans from England who settled the Mass Bay Colony in 1630, ten years after the Pilgrims landed...

I tried to get Drew to go to Kenton this year too, but was told he had to be four. Next year, I guess! Zane is rolling across the floor and laughing all of the time, especially when his brother sings "Scooby Doo" to him. Going to my mom's house tomorrow, then to Thumb for a birthday party. Back home on Sunday to prepare for a short week of work!
- Thu Aug 31 2006 11:25AM
Sandy
Connie, thank you for the pictures!!! Glad to hear Hank had a good birthday. His letter writing puts me to shame. I am getting ready for 5th. and 6th. grade an thinking about retirement. The curriculum has a fear factor element. I heard from Kenton last night. Sounds like things are just getting started. BIG news! Gwen lost her first tooth!
- Thu Aug 31 2006 9:12AM
MR
She can go. However, one of her parents is required to accompany her due to official Kenton guidelines.
- Thu Aug 31 2006 7:31AM
Rose
Ah, yes it is Kenton week!! Gotta love the bed to myself. Kristen & Ash missed the experience of Kenton, they blame their father--must admit, I wouldn't send my dog to that place!!:)
- Thu Aug 31 2006 7:31AM
Brandy
I was thinking boarding school for Gwen, but Kenton is a much better option! I know she meets the age requirements. Do you think there's still time to get her down there for this year's events?
- Thu Aug 31 2006 7:15AM
Connie
Good Morning! Talked with Uncle Hank yesterday. He had a nice birthday, received notes and cards from many people, many he didn't even know but all said thank you for the nice party. It's Kenton time again. How many years does this make? Lew asked how soon before Drew and Josh would be going? Somehow that is a scary thought.

Hi Kids, I am back down to earth for the second night. I have been rehashing our party. Now I have grass to mow and brush from Aunt Carols to take to the woods. I have mounted Sandy's tapistry on my front room wall where HCP was hanging. It is a piece of art and I'll treasure it as the custodian until I can take it, or someone else, back to Michigan as I did the picture. Hope U all are relaxed now also. Love, Uncle Hank

Wow!I had so much fun thanks to everyone. I didn't do a very good job of saying good bye as we headed home. Everyone did a wonderful job of helping. Lew and I both agreed that the people who attended where some of the happiest campers with full bellies, books, shirts, hats, and bags of food! I hope everyone recovers this week. The event had something special for everyone no matter your age. Dick and Lena would be so proud of their family and all the hard work it took to make this event so successful. Thank you to one and all!

Darry I will double check with Dan and Rose about Saturday; Sunday 9:00 will be sufficient time to get all set up and the iced tea and lemonade mixed before you guys pick up the food 11:00-ll:30. Thanks!
- Wed Jul 19 2006 8:17PM
Connie
That sounds good Rose! Spoke with Marina at HomeBoy, for a 1:00 dinner, pick up will be 11-11:30; takes 30 minutes to load, and I told her we had a 30 minute drive to the farm. We will need 1 pick-up truck for the large warmer and 2 vans for others things. She has 1 Igloo, 3 chafing dishes & sterno; will need a chafing dish for the beans (or crock pot/roaster oven-if we have electricity); chafing dish sounds best if available. Total 210 as of today. John and Jenny Bond will be coming, hear from anyone else?
- Wed Jul 19 2006 10:31AM
Rose
I will check on when the cake is being delivered. Junior Heist(I think??) called Dan last night. He has several canopies and picnic tables he is delivering saturday morning. So we should have plenty of shade. Barn door got fixed last night and flag holders hung.

Brandy and I have have the games taken care of. I was also going to set up a volleyball net for the older kids. I thought Jeremy had the horseshoes, but I am sure there will be plenty of people for two sets if there is room somewhere. We will be doing relay races with the kids, tug of war, and a scavenger hunt for anyone who wants to. I have a small tent that I can set up if there is a table that we could use under it for coloring books and activities.

Just spoke with Uncle Hank, he is packing up to leave on Wednesday. Said there is a front moving in from MN that will cool things down in the Great Lakes area by the weekend...Frank said the forecast for Sat & Sun is 80-81 degrees and 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms (in Grand Blanc)...sound lots better than now, 91 here.

Well we made it home. It was an AWESOME experience, our lives were definately touched. No need to worry about extra copies of the article, I think I have around 10 or 12. This week will be one from hell, but that is o.k., we have lots of help to get the farm ready!! Of course, Dan's priority is getting all the weeds out of the crops--big surprise there. The tents will be up thursday or friday. Should be a wonderful time. See everyone soon. Sandy-Alissa told me last night you and Lew offered to come down on saturday. That would be good, may keep us from having to kill Dan!! More later.
- Mon Jul 17 2006 8:10AM

Good suggestions...the schedule is tentative so we can adjust as needed, who knows how long it takes for 200 people to eat dinner...Alice Aileen will play for about 15 minutes and she is flexible (at 72 she is camping out in a one man tent at the Dulcimer Festival in Evert this week)...Brandy & Alissa, Dan & Rose's backyard is nice and shady for kids' games...

Mom and Dad have called a lot, sounds like they are having fun. Mom is swapping food with the indian ladies, and dad has spent most of the week on a tractor on the mountain over looking the feild where the buffalo are grazing. Well of course expect for the day when it was 110 and they went tubing down the river!!!! Dad called when they got there to tell me they were invited to the Pow-Wow... he was totally excited! Sounds to me like they are having a good trip, not really looking forward to the 14 hour ride home though.

Good Morning, Yesterday I spoke with Betsy Lamb in Fenton. She is a descendant of Robert Parke 1630, her great grandmother was Ellen Almada Parks, her father Rencileer Parks. Betsy's maiden name is Beach. Beach Street in Flint is named after her family. Her daughter is a dietitian in Australia, attended Cornell U and interned in the Tri-City Internship (Saginaw). Her resource: Bo'sun Parks, a rafter on the Delaware River, traveled from Hancock, NY to the Philadelphia shipyards. Have a nice day!

Then many of them emigrated to western Massachusetts, Vermont and New York; and from those states have emigrated to nearly every State in the Union. The family name changes over time to Park, Parkes, and Parks. (From "The Parke Families of Connecticut", published in 1906.)

Correction: Thomas was the son of Robert who sailed with him in 1630 (about 10 years after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth), our ancestor is Robert's son Samuel who had to stay in England and get the farming done;) he came over later; Thomas and Samuel settled in SE Connecticut, their descendants resided there for nearly 150 years...

I bet those are some straight shingles nailed down in the dark. Hope you have better materials than what we had this weekend. Brother-in-law Mike and I build a 12'x14' deck for Grandma Sally this weekend. UBC lumber must have cleared out the scrap pile for some of our 2x8s! They pounded together good enough for a mother-in-law deck anyway though.

We had a nice weekend up at my Mom's house. Sorry we missed you Connie. Mick and my brother in law built a deck for my Mom's house and Drew did a lot of swimming.

Good Morning! Frank is playing in the doubles final in Farmington this morning, then we head back upnorth. So happy we had a chance to see Josie, Gwen & Josh, so cute! Drew we will see you and your baby brother next time for sure! The barn, house & crops look great-and the new sign is super! We will have a grand party! Good Morning! Spot & Allie are having a great time together! Thanks Sandy, good idea, but we are all set with the table decorations...We are making good use of the 48 vases Nan bought for Ash's graduation (and will use for Sam's party next year-can you believe it?...Sam a senior!)

What great news! Drew needs a little furry bundle. Josh and Gwen are going home today after 3 night and days at Bible School. They had a great time but I don't know what the cats and Grammy will do without them! I can't wait to see Zane and Josie together. You will need lots of camera space for 5 cute grand children. They are growing too fast.We finally had a much needed rain for our crops. Ask Connie is the talble decorations could also be used for door prizes? I was thinking of buying plants so maybe we can kill 2 birds with one stone.

Now isn't that just like Lew, always doing something for us all or DAN behind the scenes! Who else but him & Sandy would own the majority of the farm and allow Dan to claim it. The girls and I are the lucky ones who get to live with Dan for the next month--you know those crops must look as good as Dads did. And yes, just like Dad, that's always the top of conversation. The reporter left a message yesterday, so Dan will be calling him to set up the appt. We'll let you know Lew--sure you won't want to miss it.:) Last thought--the KITTEN is not my fault.:)

Looks like we may have a new member of the family. Rose found a gray kitten in the weeds in the creek. He followed us home and is just dying to get into the house. Drew wants to keep him but I am not so sure. He is very friendly and only scratched Drew once - I am not sure why he didn't like him picking him up by the head to throw him off the deck :o)

Good Morning, with 180+ people at the Parks 150th, we will all be able to stay in the background...Uncle Hank is 'in his glory', he wants this to be light, fun, humorous... he is bringing a 'pot' of flowers, having a special sign made for the port-a-john...and will be ready to sit back and grin for the entire time he is at the farm! Oh yes, and maybe sign his new book "My Memories", Nan and I are printing copies for everyone- almost finished with 100 book covers...will be coming down tomorrow, see you then!

Good News-the Flint Journal Editor likes the idea of a Parks 150th feature for the Saturday People Section. Flint Journal writer Ron Krueger will be able to attend our party. He needs to have his photographer take pictures next week, I gave him Rose & Dan's number and suggested shots of the house, barn & crops. Dan maybe this would be a good time to put up the new 150 Years sign. He will also call Uncle Hank for an interview. (Ron interviewed me at Hurley, and knows Frank from the Flint Tennis Club.) Hope to see you all later this week, not sure of the day yet.

My best guess for Alissa & Brandy: 20 small children including Drew, Gwen & Josh, Easton, Julia & Kevin S.; Jonathon & Sarah Sopko; Ares Balkwill(Marla's grandson); Sheryl (Steele's) grandson; Mary & Phillip Pobocik; 3 Tickners(and new baby); 8 other Sopko kids/grandkids, 4 younger? Sorry this is the best I can do. Assume 20 older children...best I can do. Thanks!

Hello,Had a good chat with Dan last night. Looks like we will have about 200, will try to estimate ages...parking is the only concern I have...the rest is going fine. I will take your suggestions for hats & shirts. (Spot barks and growls at Gayland, must be he smells his cat...)
- Wed Jun 14 2006 11:32AM
Alissa
Darrell is right about the shirts, except it will be a pain to mail them afterwards. Getting most of them in large is always good, maybe order 50 or so in different sizes and then take orders for those who need another size or who are too late. Good to know the number of kids because Brandy and I need to work on the games. Connie, can you send us the breakdown in age range - are most of them young, teenagers, etc. I figured we could do the games at our house to have more room. Also, we are looking at August 13th for baptism of both boys, you are all invited, more details to follow.
- Wed Jun 14 2006 8:26AM
Darrell
Buy the hats by the dozens or whatever the price break is. As for the shirts. Have a couple of each size at the party and take orders after they try them on for size. Otherwise we will have a boat full of sizes that don't fit who would want them. I will take 4 hats, 2 large and 2 med shirts.
- Tue Jun 13 2006 8:37PM
Connie
I have a math problem for you...How many Parks 150th hats and how many t-shirts should we have printed? 164 total attending so far...more responses expected by June 15, 42 are kids; orders for hats 15 + 6-12 for Lewie. Do you all want one? Shirt sizes are small to XXL or larger. How many total? HELP!

Dogs are GREAT! We just had Scotty's first vet appointment. Let's see...he had ear infections, eye infections, and a nose wrinkle infection! Oh, and apparently the vet thinks the dog food we are feeding him is a "problem food" and has been known to cause death. So either we are really bad pet owners or we need a new vet!

Sorry Darry, I think Pugs are cute little dogs...but looks like Clumbers are on the top of our list...they would fit in the golfcar too...have fun!
- Sun Apr 16 2006 7:07AM
Connie
Sam & Nick bought carrots to feed the buffalo here, but some crazy lady told us they would stampede...so we got back in our golfcars and got away from her...Have a great day! We are going next door for dinner, taking a carrot cake and little easter bunnies like Bernice used to have on Easter/Frank's Birthday. Pictures please...
- Sun Apr 16 2006 6:53AM

Are you kidding, buffalo are going to be the main attraction!!! Buffalo, hounds, the cat, the bird, the guniea pigs, and oh maybe a woodchuck just for fun!

Just a thought Aunt Connie...Gwen and Josh love their pug dog. He is very portable and doesn't drool! He'd even fit in your golf cart.

Nice Florida pictures. Actually felt like Spring today. Drew and I went fishing(nothing), shot a woodcuck, did some yard work, and we saw 4 turkeys cross the road and run through the field between the houses. I got some pictures but they were down the lane before the camera girl arrived. - MR

Sue
Well, it looks like only a couple weeks until Easter. As usual we will host it and provide the meat and bread. Please bring a dish to complete the meal. If you could post want you want to bring so others know and we are covered on everything that would be great. I think we can do lunch at 1-1:30. Right now the ground is still pretty wet so I'm not sure what it will be like in a couple of weeks so please be sure the kids have clothes that they can get dirty in, in case of a wipe out. Sam, Nick and Nan bring Connie and Frank back with you. Easter isn't the same without them. Hope you all are having a good time. Kippy is missing you bunches!! See you all Easter Sunday.
- Wed Apr 5 2006 3:03PM

That won't ever happen again in your lifetime...have a nice day. Tell Gwen & Josh we are going to Disney today. Thanks kids for the cute EASTER card.

Good Morning! Hats are in...sorry but it's a done deal for 2006... for the next reunion in 1, 5, or 10 years it can be shirts or belts or whatever... Cousins Kathy & Doug have generously offered to print hats for us this time...
- Wed Apr 5 2006 2:13AM
Kris
Yeah I am definitely in for the t-shirts, some of us aren't old farmers that have to wear "cowboy" hats to keep the sun off of them while they are on the tractor!! Just in case anyone is wondering, now dad's got the boot and an offical hat, all I have to do now is get him a big ole belt buckle and he'll be a real cowboy LOL
- Tue Apr 4 2006 11:27AM
Rose
Good to know Kris learned something at NMU!! Got the invitation to the party, Hey Connie, lots of discussion on the hats, how about t-shirts?? Several unnamed family members are interested. Thoughts??
- Tue Apr 4 2006 6:18AM

In my herp class we fed our anoles, crickets, fruit flies, and baby food everyonce in a while for a treat, they mostly just like bugs though
- Mon Apr 3 2006 4:25PM
Connie
Hello from the Florida Trail! We had a good morning walk, now to pick up our golf car...Nick set the anole free...
- Mon Apr 3 2006 10:50AM
Darrell
Are you sure it just crawled into his chair?!
- Sun Apr 2 2006 7:17PM
Connie
Kris, what do you feed anoles? Nick captured one in a pretzel jar...it was crawling in the house...another went up into Frank's chair last night and we haven't seen him since.

- Fri Mar 31 2006 3:29PM
MR
What would happen to your insurance rate if you agent saw those pics? I don't know if hollering, "Try and get another foot of air next time Nick" is what I would call "supervision." LOL
- Fri Mar 31 2006 2:01PM
Darrell
Iwouldn't be too concerned. He has the proper riding gear on and REAL good adult supervision! Besides, I have insurance on him!

Thanks for the picture Darry!
- Thu Mar 30 2006 7:40PM

Sam and Nick both want to stay home and do chores instead of going to Florida. Can't say I blame them. Just think how much more fun they would have raking the yard, cleaning out the barn and just staying home with dad! Ya right. Get these two wound up buggers outa here!!!!!!!!!!
- Thu Mar 30 2006 7:29AM
Connie
WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD! Can't wait for Nan, Sam and Nick to get here. Only 3 more days...and 2 days of driving...and they will be here! Hugs to all!

Ya, but he hunted! Garrett is the name of my metal detector. Made by Charles Garrett. Ya I know, who cares! Save your names MR. Nan will be needing one somewhere down the road.
- Mon Mar 27 2006 7:26PM
MR
Zane or Garrett. Drew says Garrett is "Disgusting". Jake is out since Dan's dog is still alive and I couldn't name anything after Nort's old dog that flushed every pheasant 200 yards ahead of the hunters.
- Mon Mar 27 2006 3:07PM
Connie
Good shot Mick. Drew have any new names for his brother?
- Mon Mar 27 2006 1:14PM

They will name her Sarah Jo Li Sopko.

The birthday boy didn't have much of a birthday. He was told by the Dr. that he has pneumonia. He should be somewhat functional by Saturday and he is not contagious. He couldn't even have Star Wars birthday cake last night.

Good Morning, bright and sunny here! Check out the 1837 land purchase in Mundy, the 80 acres purchased by Lodema & Parks', Peggy's mother (Edna Bigelow) and Grandma Keeler lived there in Rankin on that piece of land...

Bruce and Peggy (Bigelow) are coming here tomorrow, it will be nice to see them. They are driving from St. Cloud, MN to Madison, flying to NC, renting a car and driving to FL. They have three grandkids, Peg is still teaching...

lcp
geeze rose i didnt intent to crank you up i never critized the nice way you have fixed up the house, just that its not original look at the pic again no pump on the modern deck look at those three neat chimneys and even the walkway up to what looks to be the dinner bell? where is the outside celler door very classy and looks original and those clothes bet you wont wear replicas of them for this gala. i just thought hank could bring it all back to 1896 levels
- Mon Mar 6 2006 7:22PM
Connie
That sounds like a good idea, tell me how many copies you want. All RSVPs have to come to me.
- Mon Mar 6 2006 5:48PM
Darrell
Do you want just the first and last names or do you need the addresses too? I am not sure what you have planned for sending the invites out. Are you planning on sending them to everyone? Or do you want to send each of us invitations for the names on our list and have us hand them out? What ever works the best. Just seems like a lot for you to have to handle.
- Mon Mar 6 2006 4:11PM
Connie
I want names from all of you. I was thinking Rose's family, Lura, Grandpa Z...let me know...
- Mon Mar 6 2006 3:10PM
Connie
Lets say 100...we will know for sure by the June 1 RSVP date. Please let me know who you would like to invite. My list has all the aunts, uncles, cousins...give me names of neighbors, friends, extended families....and I will get the invitations out this month. Thanks!
- Mon Mar 6 2006 3:07PM
Rose
Printed the information for Dan. Been thinking and talking to Nancy(some of us still use the phone!!) about the caterer. The main thing I need to know from Connie is how many people are you inviting?? or should I say planning on feeding??? You know the food is the most important part!!:) And for the lurker, I am totally offended by your remark about my house, how rude!:) But, after all what else would we expect from the source!!
- Mon Mar 6 2006 10:15AM
Connie
Hi there Lewie, did you like the history? Glad you liked the picture-wouldn't have had that without Aunt Maritta, Rose & Kris' help. Nan and Dan are taking care of restorations...I am just getting the new sign...Uncle Hank is really looking forward to this party...think we all are!
- Sun Mar 5 2006 7:09PM

Thanks Mick, I resent the messages with cut and paste method. You all should be able to read the history...
- Sat Mar 4 2006 1:55PM
Connie
It is Microsoft Works...I cut and pasted a message, can you read it?
- Sat Mar 4 2006 1:18PM
MR
Couldn't open the *.wps documents you sent. If that's Word Perfect I don't have it. Peanut Butter is a nice name but I like Freelove better. I hate to guess the occupation of whoever had that name!
- Sat Mar 4 2006 1:13PM
Connie
Brandy, Peanut would be cute, or try these: Selecta, Sophia, Olive, Freelove, Prudence, or Jemima...
- Sat Mar 4 2006 11:44AM
Brandy
Alissa and Mick, speaking of baby names. Gwen came up with one for a boy or a girl that we probably won't be using...you can have it. The name is Peanut Butter.
- Sat Mar 4 2006 8:51AM
Connie
Good Morning, were you all able to open the history email? Thanks for the note Darry, thought you and Nicholas Alan would like the findings...Will someone print a copy for Dan, or I should I mail him a copy, let me know. Uncle Hank & Aunt Carole are satisfied with the findings...One more thing-Benjamin b.1700 was the great grandfather of Norton... Ben would be a good name for a boy!
- Sat Mar 4 2006 7:34AM
Connie
Good Morning! I have finished writing the H.C.P. Family history...Can you believe I found Alan Parks in the family tree. Well Alanson or Alonzo, but anyway hope you all enjoy reading it. We will have a great reunion, and two new babies to celebrate it with...Have a great weekend!
- Fri Mar 3 2006 10:11AM

Oh yes, not only is he bringing the portrait of HCP, but he is bringing the centerpiece for the table!
- Mon Feb 27 2006 5:25PM
Connie
Uncle Hank is looking forward to the Parks Party! Today he wrote: It is my desire that all labor and materials necessary will be on my tab. I can't see having a party and having guests set table and clean up. Nice to know that Dan & Rose can provide the space outside and the caterer does the rest. (Know any good caterers?)
- Mon Feb 27 2006 5:23PM
Connie
Catherine and Norton were married in East Bloomfield, Ontario, NY 1829. Catherine died 1839. HCP was born 1834...Norton remarried in 1840...died after the winter of 1863 with some of their children...maybe cholera, not sure.
- Mon Feb 27 2006 7:33AM
Connie
The search goes on...I found Norton & Catherine in Rose Township, south of Fenton and Holly in 1850. HCP was not listed with them...Uncle Hank remembers HCP was orphaned and raised by a prominent Alger family. The big fire in Farmington 1872 'consumed the township records'. The Alger and Parks families were pioneers in Ontario Co, NY; in Oakland Co; and in Mundy Township. HCP purchased the 80 acres in Gaines Twp in 1856 from Charles Mosher, per LCP!
- Mon Feb 27 2006 7:23AM
Connie
Good Morning, no ice on the pond, but a little frost on the rooftops...37 degrees. Parks History-1826 Norton Parks purchased 84.58 acres in Farmington Twp, section 18, just north of the I275, I696 interchange. 1827 Farmington Twp was established. Take a look next time you pass by...

About 4" of good ice on the pond today. The water is way up to about 6" below the dock. Nice for skating.
- Sun Feb 26 2006 4:46PM

Are you ready for the Olympics yet? Sounds like a great ski trail. Makes me a little homesick thinking about skiing and seeing the beautiful pines in the snow in Torino. Big hockey game today-Sweden & Finland!

I am holding Grandma hostage. She is busy watching my dance shows and my art projects. I'll need her for about another three months and then she'll just have to move in. As far as names for that new baby go, I have my odds on a little sister and I insist we name her Odette. (Mom's not convinced)

Good Morning! Last night, during the Olympic snowboarding, I solved our mystery...Norton & Catherine Mandeville Parks were the parents of HCP. The 1850 Census listed them in Rose Township, Oakland Co, MI. She was Dutch, he was English, from Bloomfield, Ontario County, NY... Found some interesting Parks men along the way, including Robert, Christopher, Squire, Porter, Ashley, Benjamin, Joel, and many many more... Have a good week, 25 degrees here!
