Went to Walhala last night. Woke up this morning, rolled over and went back to sleep! Had plans to stay another night. But decided to come home and hunt with Nick in the morning. Got home in time to go back hunting for the last 45 min of daylight. Seen 7 does/dinks in the clover field in front of Nick's stand. Let the lopsided 4 point pass after calling it in a half dozen times. Just before dark an 8 point came in to a fake scrape I made. He is hanging in the barn! They are cutting the beans on the other side of the tracks tonight. Should be fun in the morning.

Let an 8 point this morning and a 4 point tonight walk away. Nick passed on the 4 point too. He had another buck that he couldn't see the antlers through the brush, but I could from across the field. Lots of does and dinks. Seen 3 bucks at once in the garden on my way up Sat night. Couldn't see them very good with my broken binculars. So today Nick and I went to Gander Mountain and I got a nice pair. I can see in the neighbors window a half mile away after dark! I mean a buck in the tall grass across the section!

Pumpkin Patch Buck hit in road
Well, looks to me like the buck I got on the trail cam is the same one that got hit in the road in front of Pobocik's old place. Lisa Sturgis(who runs the daycare) lives next door and her daughter got a picture. This was the buck that we think was pushed from the pumpkin patch behind Bill's when Nan, Dan, and Rose were picking pumpkins. Hard to imagine any other reason for a buck to cross Grand Blanc Rd. at 5:30 PM.

Drew got a goal today! A real nice one. He dribbled 1/2 the field that bounced one off the goalies chest. Then he snatched up the rebound and buried it into the back of the net, about waist high. We gave up a few softies and lost 2-1. Great game though. Drew was all over the field. We played the coaches from last year and they were pretty impressed.

Just had our annual checkups, so far, so good! Gayland wasn't so lucky, his potassium was up to 6.2 and he had iv fluids...down to 5.8 when we left yesterday...trying to get it lower and avoid going to the hospital...have a good day!

We drove home through big rainstorms! Gayland took a few steps down the hall, with lots of encouragement. We took him on a wheelchair ride, at his request, through the halls and outside...took 3 nurses to get him back in bed...will be moving to a nursing home, as soon as doctor gives the OK.

Working kidneys, thats wonderful. Thought I would let you know Adam's grandpa died last night, so they will now have no grandparents at the wedding. We know he is in a better place, he was suffering with parkinsons for the last few years. Isn't life interesting!

Gayland is in bad shape. Now his left knee hurts as much as his left arm. But the good news is that his kidneys have kicked in and his antibiotics were done today. Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes, he really appreciates them!

Sending from Logan WV. 2good days of riding so far. No one has went off the side of a mountain yet. But it's beebread real close several times! I am stealing wireless at the laundrymat while cleaning our riding gear. Rained hard yesterday for about a half an hour. You wouldn't belive how fast the trails turn into rivers comming down the mountain. With all the rocks, mud and fast moving water, it gets pretty scarry at times. Sure is pretty though.

The farmers are harvesting the wheat and we picked string beans today. These are scary signs that summer is flying by!!! Happy 4th to all, we are Gayland, Connie and Frank Saturday. I plan to stop in Monday afternoon to check on him, he his lonely and loved the cards.

Took the boat and new motor to Lobdell lake this morning. The 6 cylinder Mercury pushes the boat pretty good. Had a little excitement with the truck on the way home. Thought I threw a rod. The motor started knocking and the temp went way up. Pulled into the Bryon fire department as it died. Turned out, the coil wire poped out of the coil. I like these kinds of repairs. No $$$$! Kicking back to watch the Tigers game before heading out to disk my two deer food plots. Have a nice holiday!

We saw a bear! On the way to BC yesterday, between Grayling and West Branch, a mile before the 55 exit to Cadillac. Glad we didn't hit him, he was big and moving fast! He charged across the ditch to the shoulder of the road, I slowed down and he turned and ran back into the woods. Pretty exciting!

Pressed the doctors to define the plan for Gayland. The plan is to complete 6 weeks of antibiotics, which should run through July 10th. No plan for hand surgery, only PT, lasix, and regular meds. Got to Wheeling, West VA tonight.

Gayland got a PIC line and will need 6 weeks antibiotics, will next go to a skilled nursing facility, probably Bay Special Care on the West Campus, not sure when though. As for me, I get clear liquids tomorrow, and hernia repair on Friday. Probably won't be lifting big rocks for awhile.

Got home at 1:30am...7 1/2 hrs from Carmel via 31 and 131. Saw a lot of corn (and beans too!). Look at our Rockafellow family history! Grandma Winnie and all Rockafellows/Rockefellers in the U.S. are descended from two brothers Johann Peter and Diehl Rockefeller who came from Rhineland Germany in 1723 and 1735 to NJ and NY. Our branch is Winifred Jane (1890), James D.(1855), Andrew (1812), Abraham & Mary of Seneca Co, NY....Johan Peter (1711-1787). Not sure yet which of Johan's nine children to attach our Abraham...John D. Rockefeller's ancestor is on a different branch...Grandma said her family came from Seneca County...will keep you posted!

As I was getting ready for a church and reading about Mother's Day, I realized that your children don't really seem like a gift until they have grown up and flown the nest. All the stages of kids talking back and a chronic condition of the "I wants," make Mom and Dad feel like...I can't wait until they are grown up and gone. You have heard us say that, you don't have any money until the kids are grown up and out of college. Now that we are in the golden years, we are on the outside looking in and loving grandchildren to the max! I pray that everyone reaches our stage of happiness and a few bucks in your pocket. God has smiled on our family in so many ways, stop and be thankful for what ever stage of life we are enjoying this day.

Drew and I went back to the woods and shot a jake this morning. I saw a group of 8 back by the pond from the house. I was on the phone with Grandma and she said, "You better go get 'em!" So we grabbed the shotgun and hoped in the truck. Drew waited in the truck so I could sneak through the woods because it was kind of rainy and cold. There was a tom in the group but he wouldn't give me a shot. Drew was hollering at me from the truck about something and that cause the tom to gobble. Thinking about what Drew might tell his mother if I ignored him any longer, I just shot the red head that I could see through the brush. 4" beard and a nice looking bird. Getting him in the smoker now. - MR

Here's what it looked like in the shanty Saturday night. There were fish all over the fish finder but they didn't want to bite. The only way to catch them was to move the lure to the depth that the finder marked a fish. I think we caught 40 which is not a lot but a whole lot better than getting skunked. This was on Higgins with my friend Stu who has a cabin there. MR

Any one else get hosed by opening the Michigan link on Ytube? Half way through watching it, my laptop got nailed with Paladin Antivirus BS. After an hour of dogging popups trying to wipe it out, I now get a screen saying Windows is trying to open. That is as far as it goes. I have found tons of repairs online. But without the laptop comming up, it doesn't do much good. So you wont be seeing me around here for awhile. You can be pretty sure I wont be opening any more links either!

We had friends and their three boys over for New Years. The kids had a great time playing the Wii and with the Nerf guns down in the basement. My sister got Drew two more Nerf guns for Christmas so we have quite an arsenal in the basement! The boys had fun staying up and having sparkling grape juice when the ball dropped.
